I love it. The final is considerably faster than the Betas or Alphas. My biggest (and probably only) complaint at this point is that, due to the new stupid Volume Controls, I can't unmute the output for Line-In or Mic inputs on my computer. This is important because I use that input for when I play video games using my Xbox360 connected to my monitor.

I agree with the LFD, ubuntu 9.10 has a lot going for it, but not being able to change the login screen really annoys me. This is usually the first thing I do, just to make my computer feel like my computer, instead of feeling like any computer. it's the reason I use linux - because it lets me do whatever I want whenever I want. I know there's workarounds to getting it to look like you want it, but why make it so difficult / why change it in the first place?

I have a evo. And when i say that its the best phone i've ever came in contact with, please believe. The iphone4 has a cap and the evo doesnt. You only can video chat on the iphone wifi. The iphone4 has a real contender. And its nmeis the HTC EVO.

At the fool that said iPhone is making a fake gimmick for using 4g and not really supporting 4g just wanted to let you know it stands for 4th generation!!!!!

Okay, honestly, the androids may look fancy and all that but face it, the iphone will ALWAYS be better. It has itunes (something that no Android will ever get, so you guys will have to go for some crappy substitute, like the microsoft music store that nobody uses), the iphone has the most responsive screen on ANY mobile phone, that alone is a great reason to get it. I've used all the androids, and, lets be honest, their screen are sh*t compared to the iphone. Also, the iphone has the app store, with THREE TIMES as many apps as any of the androids! This may well be the biggest reason to get the iphone. The other smart phones will never be able to catch up to that number. I have a full fledged RPG and one hell of a FPS on my phone, I can watch live T.V., straight from my phone, my iPhone can listen to a song, and have all of the lyrics, the artist and their bio, and a link to buy it, I can find the best prices for something by scanning its barcode, i can watch and control all of my security cameras right from my phone screen, I can control my computer from halfway across the world with my iPhone, there are apps that give me enhanced reality, so i see what people have commented on or written through my iphone screen. Please inform me when the androids can do those. You know what else I've got? I've got Steve Jobs working for me to make my phone better and better. Your androids will run out of fashion and be forgotten soon. Do you remember the first iphone killer? Neither do I because it went out of fashion too! Honestly, the iphone has been the coolest phone out there since 2007, and 50 million copies later, it STILL is.

Funny how everyone gets so EMOTIONAL over a phone! @Chris even dogged Steve Jobs clothing... (really?). I don't care what he wears he is a successful brilliant business person with a vision. So is Bill Gates. I don't care what either of one of them wears. I use an iPhone because I love the ease of use. I feel that the touchscreen is amazing and easy to operate. I think I would like a smaller size and weight only because it feels better in my hand and I have to hold the thing all day. No personal attacks, just a personal preference. You can get true HD video capabilities in the new iPhone but, I wonder how it will transfer onto my computer screen. Will it be full sized? This "VOTE" thing is funny as no one here has even held the new iPhone in their hands because it isn't even OUT YET! Ha Ha! Let's hold off on judgements until we get to use the 4g and can then truthfully compare the two. Who knows, maybe EVO wins, maybe iPhone...no one here can argue a point until they see/feel/use the device themselves! I think that getting a 4g phone before they come out with 4g isn't a bad thing, it will be ready when the service is up and running. It isn't fake, it just isn't there yet. To introduce a phone that ignores an up and coming technology like 4g is not a good business decision when everyone knows the carriers are all working towards 4g. To have the new iPhone be only 3g would be very stupid when other phones are already coming out with 4g. So what if it is early. I don't know a lot about this, it is a personal decision for me. I just know enough to never underestimate Apple.

    @ mcbeav,

Talk about gimicky, iPhone 4 is FAKE '4G', iPhone can't operate not able to operate and has no 4G network to operate on either. ATT/VZ has ZEROOOOOOOOO 4G network, NADA. iPhone is false farketting with attaching 4G to it's name when it can't and doesn't operate on 4G network. AAPL is such a slizebag, it's new to me.

Those who are complaining that Sprint doesn't have 4G network all over USA are making foolish comments.
Sprint currently has around 50 million population covered with 4G network vs ATT/VZ and every other service provider having ZEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 4G, nothing at all.

Sprint will be covering more than 120 million population by the end of the year.

HTC EVO 4G is so much better than iPhone, EVO does so many functions that iPhone can't do at all. I don't even want to list and waste my time further.

  • Dobi - 14 years ago

I wanted to vote for HTC EVO 4G, but don't see option available to vote.

    Where do I vote?

  • chris - 14 years ago

Hopefully someone here is using an evo , like myself. I took a look at my ipod touch after not seeing it since I picked up the evo, I almost laughed. It looks crumny. I don't think I will ever pick it up again. Not even for music. Apple buyers will always buy Apple . The video chat is lameski... WiFi only...lol.

Maybe ATT users can pick up a sprint hotspot device ( evo, mifi...) and then , they can begin to enjoy its " new features " . Steve jobs needs to get a new outfit as well, have some respect when releasing your own flagship device, you look like a hobo on stage. The lucky black dingy turtleneck of doom never fails to rear its ugly mug. The ftc is also investigating apples use of strict market control , possibly a monopoly. Google will network them. Apple is last to follow in everything ... 3g, Bluetooth , mms, multitasking , 4g /lte, removable battery, expandable memory . In that same order... I give it two years and Apple is 3rd in the smartphone race behind RIM and HTC .

  • Josh - 14 years ago

First: I love how the iphone loses because of its carrier. If it wasn't for AT&T the HTC wouldn't have a chance.
Second: here is how i look at it. People are huge into how they spend their money so lets go with money for figures

Almost everyone has an iPod and utilizes iTunes. That is $100+ down the drain. Well if you have an iPod its easy to say i don't need an iPhone so get the HTC right well that is another $200. Well you HTC ran out of memory for all your apps, videos, pics, etc so now you have to get an SD card but lets get one equivalent to the iPhone capability so that is another $50 (if they even sell SD cards with more than 8gb of memory) So you spent $350 for two gadgets and your phone can sinc up with iTunes so if you want music on the go you have to use your iPod, or you could use your HTC and that would mean you wasted money buying an iPod. So the real cost is $350 with $100 wasted away. Now for the iPhone

iPhone: $200 for the 16g version (that is 15g more than the HTC), iPod capability so you can save your $100 on an iPod. No need for an SD card. Plenty of room for music, video, pictures and apps. Can sinc with iTunes since everyone practically uses it (its like saying no one uses facebook...really?) So do the money math $200 and you get an iPod and phone all in one device.

Who cares about the services when the price is what really matters.

    Think outside the box.

I agree that both phones are, indeed, of the great quality. Although, HTC and Google made truly remarkable phone (HTC Evo4g).

    Major difference:

    1) Screen
Retina display in iPhone 4 povides the resolution of 960 x 640. It's truly amazing screen. If you compare it to any other smartphone available, you will see the difference. There is no gap between actual screen and a touch screen in iPhone. Although, iPhone has only 3.5-inch screen, as compared to HTC Evo 4g with 4.3-inch TFT LCD display with lower resolution. It's your own preference, but I favor a bigger screen in this case.

    2) Battery
No doubt, Apple made an effort of longer battery life in their iPhone 4. Most people complain, that HTC Evo 4g destroys the battery very fast, especially when you use 4G connection.

I am actually amazed, that HTC Evo 4g has so many features, that iPhone doesn't. Among them:
    - 4G Network from Sprint. However, there are not too many cities supporting it so far.
    - WiFi hot spot (5 devices on 3G, and up to 8 devices on 4G). I can't believe AT&T doesn't have it with the new iPhone 4.
    - HDMI output.
    - Ability to play FLASH content. That what is called 'openness'.
    - I know it sounds weird, but the kickstand is an awesome idea.
    - New app from Fring, allowing you to use Skype, ICQ etc. But most importantly free video calling. Sorry, iPhone, videocalling to iPhones restricted to only WiFi? I think it's time for the Aplle to take this competition more serious.

Overall, I'll stick to HTC Evo 4G. A truly remarkable smartphone with so many cool features.

  • IT Pro - 14 years ago

I used to sell Android Phones and hated the iphone b/c it couldn't do a lot of the things like send a picture message and b/c it was the competition. But the fact of the matter is, they've improved the iphone greatly and EVERYONE is "TRYING" to BE or BEAT the iphone but cannot. Apple's TOUCH SCREEN Technology in the iphone, ipad, macbooks etc is UNTOUCHABLE. The response is more precise and it all just operates more smoothly. The new iphone 4 has a smaller screen and less megapixels. BIG WHOOP. It's got HD video recording and who needs more than 5 megapixels on a camera? Not many... most pictures taken are to be uploaded onto social networks and emails which should be or need to be reduced to 2 megapixels or less anyways otherwise it's too big to send or will be a HUGE picture that you have to scroll around on the screen to see all of it. The iphone 4 DOES have an LED flash on the back for pictures and a LIGHT for videos. The back of the iphone 4 is also an a light sensor that automatically adjusts the picture for the right brightness settings when taking a picture or recording. Also Sprint's 4G network is NOT 10x faster than AT&T b/c AT&T actually came out with their HSDPA network FIRST which is up to 7.2 mbps. So they are about equal in speed although AT&T has a better/larger network. The iphone 4 also has a better/faster processor for better performance and battery life. It's got dual mic's for better noise cancelation for clearer calls. It's got more apps available. It's thinner and has a more durable and scratch resistant screen and casing. All signs point to iphone 4 being the CLEAR winner. I'm not an Apple fanatic and I actually use a PC daily but I do own a macbook and probably will get the iphone 4 b/c it's the BEST. I see the facts, I've played with all different versions, i've done hours of research and comparisons and I've came to the conclusion that Apple has a far superior product in almost ALL categories when it comes to innovation and design. They're geniuses that patent things like a magnetic power supply and multi-touch screens so that no one else can copy them. Even if the iphone 4 had LESS features on EVERYTHING I would still choose the iphone over EVO or other smartphones just due to the TOUCH SCREEN Technology alone. It's the most accurate and responsive and less frustrating to use.

    iphone4 WINS.

  • caramel - 14 years ago

I love the EVO! iPhone looks cool but in my opinion its overrated. U want Apple for ur computer? Then great go for it but as far as a cell phone goes well......BIGGER IS BETTER!

  • fer - 14 years ago

look apple makes the best product usually people turn down apple because is very expensive apple computer are the best no virus no crash same with iphone its hard to destroy then they have the ipad playing video games on ipad or iphone cant compare so is very simple you don't have money buy the cheap stuff that looks like the real stuff but is not

  • Steve - 14 years ago

Having had both an iphone and an evo (for 4 days and then returning, which I will explain in a moment) it really is just a matter of what you like. Both phones have their advantages.
What I like about the iPhone is the simplicity. I have been using it since they first came out, and I am used to the whole interface. I realize that Android OS/HTC Sense is something I would undoubtedly get used to and perhaps even come to prefer at some point. Everything on the iphone feels much more intuitive and functions more smoothly. Android/Sense has duplicate menus for various functions and, while the set up is easy, the non-calling functions I use most (email and music) felt awkward to get to. As I said, I could get used to it, and that is not the reason I chose iPhone.
The big screen on the Evo is admittedly nice, however, the iphone's will be of higher quality. I prefer the iphone here though, because I don't like carrying a phone that big in my pocket. When I first saw the HD2, I did not even know it was a phone, I was willing to look past the size because of the other abilities on the EVO though. The iphone is perfect sized. If I want to look at a real webpage, real computer's are readily accessible and the extra .8 inch really won't make full websites any more navigable.
The Sprint service feels like a better deal, as it comes with unlimited data, navigation and unlimited mobile calling, while at&t limits all of that except for calls to at&t mobile customers and does not have navigation on the iphone without a pricey app (that I am aware of). The Sprint navigation on the evo is what I will miss the most though, it was simple, fast and the turn by turn voice directions came in handy more than once, since I used it in a car most of the time, I will dismiss the battery usage here as a car charger makes this an easy fix.
The battery and storage are removeable on the evo. Nice, I suppose, but I would prefer that HTC just give me enough battery to feed the monster they created for a full day's worth of real world usage. I don't want to be nervous that I won't be able to make a call at the end of the day if I am taking advantage of the other features I bought the phone for. I have never been nervous about running out of power with my iphone, unless I forget to charge it, even then, I typically have enough power to make it through the 2nd day. I don't want to have to carry a battery with me, I already have enough in my pocket with the oversized phone in my pocket.
I wish HTC would charge me more for memory that is on board and integrated with the phone (like Apple does), the evo's microsd card was the main source of frustration for me. The connection point to the card does not always fit flush with the card, and caused some major issues with my evo. I am not sure if it was specific to the one I had, but it seems poorly designed to me. When the connection was not there, I was (obviously) not able to access the files on it. When I wanted to listen to music and the connection was lost, I had to turn off the phone, remove the battery and make sure the chip was correctly attached. More of an inconvenience than anything, however, when I turned the phone back on, it would not boot back up. The Sprint 4G boot video was continously looping, and I had to do a hard reset, which erased the info on the onboard memory, thereby losing my apps and contacts. Since I own a Mac, I did not have the contacts saved on my computer yet. Unfortunately, this happened twice, and I was not willing to re enter all of my contacts a third time, so I returned the phone. As it is the hot new phone and sold out everywhere around me, I was unable to get another phone, so I decided I will switch back to the iphone for the time being. I do appreciate Sprint's 30 day opt out policy, so I did not have to pay a penalty. I liked the evo, but I love my iphone, it's the devil I know...

  • Sprinty - 14 years ago

Hey Jim - unfortunately, the WiFi hotspot's gonna cost you $30 a month...It's still cheaper than buying a mobile hotspot device supporting only 5 devices and paying $50/mo for "unlimited data" that has a 5GB cap. So, don't lose heart.

Brightside: tethering is free! Download PDAnet, plug USB into your computer (or, tether wirelessly with BlueTooth), and enjoy the 4G goodness for FREE!

  • jim - 14 years ago

I would take the Evo. I have an iphone 3gs 32gb. It is a great phone. But I have experienced the same issues as many ATT customers, such as dropped calls, an inability to make calls, and overpriced service. With the news that ATT is increasing the cost of data for heavy users, and not decreasing any other costs, I will not come back to ATT when my contract is up. Further, while sprint falls in the 2nd rate wireless group (tmobile and sprint), They have 3g where I live and that is all that really matters. The phone plan that sprint has that would be equivalent to my current plan would cost almost 30 dollars less than I pay now, and much less once compared to the new att plan. Plus evo has free tethering (wifi hotspot) where att charges more and gives you no extra data.

Sprint or verizon, here i come. ATT service is over priced, and andriod will own IOS soon.

  • Gary - 14 years ago

I had the iPhone 3s and now a new evo and I love it that big screen is super I can't go back to a small 3.5" screen. My wife has one to and we video chat It's nice works good and the HDMI is sweet to see my videos on my 65" inch plasma love my evo the iPhone iOS4 is no competition by by AT&T and go Sprint 4G best unlimited data plan and price

  • TechlySpeaking - 14 years ago

@mcbeav: jokes aside, I have to disagree with your assertion that the specs of the iPhone 4 are better. HTC has thrown EVERYTHING into the EVO. Granted, battery life can be a problem if you avail yourself of all of it at the same time - but the cameras are better on the EVO, the dual LED flash, and the screen - as "innovative" as the retina display is on the iPhone is, a 4.3 inch screen changes the way you use the phone. There are things that I can do on the Evo that I would never attempt on a 3.5 inch screen (i.e. I don't need to view the mobile version of webpages, and video/GPS are next level). The video chat on iPhone that everyone is touting as "revolutionary" is not - in fact FaceChat is SO proprietary as to be useless as a universal way to video chat. Video chat on WiFi only is gimmicky - more so than 4G. I was able to use Qik to video chat with an iPhone 3gs user yesterday - though they could not chat back with video. Storage? People over look the fact that removable media storage doesn't mean 16-32 GB; it's theoretically infinitely. Switch the card. 4G is spotty. I live in a city where it's not "announced" yet, but the test network is up and I am getting 7Mbps per sec. This is a game-changer. Again, I am unleashed to do that which the iPhone can only aspire to.

I think the race is VERY close from a hardware perspective with a slight edge toward HTC Evo. Software-wise? Android is an OS after my own heart. It will do everything I ask it to do, it the way I want it done. iOS4 will do everything Apple wants it to do, the way Steve Jobs wants it done. For me, that's a deal-breaker.

  • mcbeav - 14 years ago

@Tim most of these people most likely have not. Most seem to be "fanboys" of some sort. I use the term losely, so don't shit your diapers. @Joe , I am not an Apple fanboy of any sort i just want to point out some major flaws in your argument. Sprint's 4G coverage is extremely spotty. In fact, so spotty it seems a bit gimicky at this point to use that as a selling point for the phone. Also, It is not 10x the speed of 3g. Research some of the bandwidth test results of the EVO 4G. Also, the reviews of the phone are stating that with the 4G radio turned on, the life is sucked out of the battery. The iPhone 4's screen is actually of much better technology, although it is smaller in size. I would say the EVO 4G is far from "crushing" the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 is a better phone in terms of specs, but it is really going to come down to preference between these 2. Also, HTC will release a better than the iPhone, phone in a few months, so no worries.

  • lexihel - 14 years ago

Both are very similar and well loaded indeed. But HTC Evo calls my attention because it offers more flexibility of use. iPhone is and will always be bound in ways HTC Evo is not. Sad thing the battery issue, but if I had the chance of buying one, I wouldn't mind to keep a back up battery with me, I already do with my old modded HTC.

  • Free-Man - 14 years ago

They are both superb devices. Although the iPhone has better resolution, I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make on such a small screen in relation to HDTVs where resolution makes a huge difference. EVO allows for more customization options, integrates google voice, pushes email for free, which are all features that the iPhone can do when it's jailbroken or with use of paid apps. EVO allows up to 8 devices to hook up to it as a mobile hotspot (including game consoles!). iPhone enables tethering but I haven't heard of it being a wireless hotspot. Lastly, EVO has flash. iPhone doesn't. For me, EVO takes this fight because the features EVO has are catered more to what's important to me; just like I'm sure those who vote for the iPhone will enjoy it's features for the same reasons.

Written from an iPhone 3Gs :)

  • Sprinty - 14 years ago

The EVO makes the iPhone look like a ... wait, I can't see it. The screen is too small!

  • Daniel - 14 years ago

If the Incredible had a forward-facing camera, I would easily vote for it over both of these. Most of the new features that iPhone4 and iOS introduces are already present (or bettered) by the Evo/Incredible and the Android platform. Couple this with the better networks (Verizon-Incredible and Clear4G-Evo), the lack of Steve Jobs' nazi police force in the Android market, and the upcoming features of Froyo and it makes the decision a no-brainer!

  • Tim - 14 years ago

Wonder how many voters have seen or perhaps even used both devices...I have not.

Evo makes iPhone 4 look like a Behold II

  • joe - 14 years ago

Haha oops is a total idiot, the HTC Evo absolutely destroys the iPhone 4 (not 4G, At&T wont have that for at least a year) in terms of processor and internet speed. Not to mention a significantly better, larger, more vivid screen. No outdated Apple home button, unlimited data at 10x At&T speeds, mobile hotspot, limitless free Android apps, oh ya, and no $375 cancellation fee. Ya the iPhone once was the sh*t, but now HTC and Google have far surpassed Apple. If Apple and At&T werent so damn greedy maybe they wouldn't be losing iPhone customers. Trust me, I've had every iPhone and just switched to the Evo when my At&T contract expired. I'll never go back!!
