The best end-of-term evaluation method is:

An in-class final exam (1-3 hr duration).

A self-scheduled final exam (1-3 hrs, at a time of the student's choosing).

A take-home final exam (8-48 hrs duration, at a time of the student's choosing).

A final paper or project.

A final oral exam/ oral presentation.

Giving grades sends a bad message to students. You should just give them all A's. That way everybody feels good.
