I bought an iPhone 4 on July 5 2011 and since then the back and front both have screen guards and after a week I bought a silcone capdase case since some People here have had to ultimately put on a screen guard and a case I did it from before don't know if it would be scratched if u did so because scratches make a device like an iPhone look very ugly. No matter how hard the glass you should still protect it There are depots on the Internet that the iPhone 4 glass will get scratched so why take the chance ?

To those who have scratches on glass surface, try this: Get a clean cloth(best is a new one just for your phone) and wet it with warm water and wipe the surface where your scratch is continuously for a few weeks. Make sure they aren't too wet as your phone has water void in them... This method works for my other devices in the past. Currently there isn't any scratches on mine but i know how it felt having to come about knowing theres a scratch on a new product. For the iPhone 4 i will highly recommend users to choose soft material casings(silicon) types of casing if possible as majority of the hard casings does not protrude to the front from the side. and if using a hard casing, a back screen protector is a must as though it covers the back, scratches maybe form due to contact with some hard casing and the back. always place phone facing down where casing prevent front from touching base reduces chance that things land on the top of phone and scratch (i throw things on my table and most are sharp and heavy) also try not to place it in pocket even when the pocket is empty. sometimes pants with metal studs at the side of pocket will scratch with less care(mostly are jeans. squeeze into your skinny jeans is a dumb idea). Also make sure to clean the phone maybe once a week with micro fiber cloth to clear dust that will also cause scratches after some time surprisingly. Keep away from sun, prevent heating of glass.

My phone developed a scratch on day two of ownership. A day later the center of the scratch had become more noticeable. For about one centimeter the scratch will catch on my finger-nail, but the rest of it is barely noticeable. It stays in my pocket alone and has not been dropped.

My iphone is only two weeks old and looked great until I found a deep scratch on the back glass. Not even sure how it got there as it has only been in my pocket (with nothing else) and on a table around the house. Scratch is deep enough to actually feel - glad it didn't happen on the front. I had already ordered the Apple bumper and was prepared to go with just that once it arrived since it was supposed to need nothing else. I now have it in a full case with a screen protector - not what I wanted but it seems to be necessary after all!

I have had my iPhone 4 for 12 days, there are already small scratches on the front of the phone. I have made sure to not put my phone in my pocket with anything else, especially keys. Compared to my 1st gen iPhone which I have had for 3 years, my iPhone 4 already has more scratches. I second Scott's comment: Scratch resistant glass, yeah right!

Yes, plenty, only had the phone a week, been in my pocket when traveling, and not dropped, but both front and back there are multiple scratches, I have had to put screen protector on front and back, but it sucks when you're out in the sun as you can easily see them, even if you have the screen turned off looking directly at the screen they are visible!
    Scatch resistant glass, yeah right!

had mine a few days and scratches have appeared on the front. I've not dropped it only had it in my pocket. Had my old I phone 2 years and had no such problem. I know of other cases with some saying it's mysteriously happened on a hot day?? Also glass back means unless surface it's on is flat it's liable to sliding. No grip. Suggestions for scratches? One is a good inch in middle of display!

Apparently my iPhone 4 met my nail file in my purse and I have major scratches on the FRONT screen that you can see & feel. I had put on a Griffin case which protects the back, not the front. I'm sick about it. Don't think there's a way to get rid of them?...
