We put the flag out on almost every holiday, and it stays correctly packed away from the floor when it isnt out. Most of the time when we put the flag out, we got some odd looks from our neighbors.
I think it all comes down to, the kids and most adults being taught to be a shamed of our countrys history, and that everything is bad about us. We also have a president, that in his first year, spent most of his time going from country to country apologizing for amarica(even though we americans have nothing to apologize for).
We've gone from saying the national anthem before school, when i was a kid, to know kids dont even know the national anthem, or even worse what the flag stands for.

I fly two of them, but most of my neighbors don't.
After 9/11 almost every home had a flag, but with-in the last year or so the number has dramatically decreased.
Is there some correlation to the actions of the present administration?
I don't know, but I feel that the sense of pride in our country and it's actions have been dramatically reduced.
A real esate agent puts flags in every home's yard on our street every year, so everyone had one. Flying from poles on the housees - only the homes with kids in Catholic schools and the retired cops (more Catholics). Muslims on the block NEVER have American flags, but do have crescent moon & star signs year round. The dozen or so buildings with illegal Mexican immigrants that live 10 to an apartment, NEVER have American flags - but I did see a Hezbollah flag there one May 1 illegal immigrant march day.

I don't know if this counts as 'flying' the flag but I have the flag hanging on my front window every day of the year.
