I use 960px or more recently 972px. Basically I design for 1024 resolutions. Fixed layouts.

I use 980px widths for my layouts, but I'm considering make a flexible layout for my site's next layout.

Yeah, 960px usually with the 960 grid system. I know some people are starting to go bigger, but with the iPad and imminent tablet PCs flooding the internet, I think 960 is perfect.

Hi there, since I saw some recent statistics saying that more than 60% of internet users still use a 1024px screen I usually try to keep my max-width to 960px so there's still a little room on the sides to appreciate the design.

Less than 10% says they dont use max width at all. Does that mean people dont use fluid layout that much? Also, I guess the poll will be more interesting if the 950-1000px range is more divided.

Generally, I use 968px. It seems to take into account scrollbar width etc at the edge of a 1024px screen, and also, show a slight bit of background which might be integral to the feel of the site.

Since i only manage my blog on tumblr, which max content width is 500px, i use 940px width for the rest

    I use a max-width 960px for my general works :)

At my place of work we use 960px using a grid as it is divisible by many different numbers and it allows a little bit of space in 1024 wide monitors to add a 'back to top' button I usually fix on the right of the page.

I design solidly for a max-size of 960px, but I'll use interesting background images so as to emulate a more 'fullscreen experience' for users with larger resolutions.

I'd be careful at developing at exactly 1000px, once you remove the scrollbar space, window borders and the chance that their browser window may not be maximised, they're going to be closer to

960px width (or 73.85em with a base font of 13px). Since a while we stopped doing liquid designs. These are interesting for blogs and other text-heavy sites, but suck when working with too many different content components.

I used 960px for a long time, but recently I am starting to use 1000px in everything I do.

I find myself often using the 960 grid system or golden grid at around 960 - 1000px .. seems to work well and can save me a bit of time.

I am still stuck at 1024 designs. That's why I use less than 1024 Pixel for my websites - usually 1000px total width!

I've decided to start with the res of 1024 since most of us now have around 1280 or more for the width of our monitors. And well, some of us still use the 1024. I'm trying to use a flexible layout at times too just for those still using under 1024.
