I, like millions of Americans am unemployed. I worked and paid taxes for over 30 years. I am 57 so I will not get anther job, too old according to most employers. They look at your experience and can figure out how old you are and then trash your resume. McDonald's wont hire me because I have no food experience. I've only been cooking for my family for over 30 years. My son is a recent college graduate. He can't get a job either. Not enough experience. Let's face it, our govenment has us by the balls. We are all anxiouly awaiting Joe Manchin's interim senate appointment which has been delayed for his own personal gain. Will his appointment assure a "yes" vote on the unemployment extension. That's just another risk that we have to live to see. Let's face it, we have been screwed over and over again by these same idiots that were voted in to represent us. To those that are unemployed and think we are lazy, alcoholics or drug addicts, you people are crazy and I hope you lose your job today. I am not a drinker, not even a social drinker, I don't do drugs and I welcome anyone to drug test me at their own expense and I am certainly not lazy after working for over 30 years. I've received numerous promotions, raises and awards throughout my professional career. I've depleted by savings, 401k and filed bankruptcy. I eat peanut butter and jelly, egg salad. The cheapest things I can find and not brand names either. I still have a vehicle but no money for gas or for the tires that are needed. The last person that supported me was my parents until I finished college. I've paid taxes for over 30 years. I've never been arrested. Never even had a ticket. And yet people want to call us lazy, alcoholics and drug addicts. We won't get jobs if they cut off our benefits because there are no jobs to obtain. Every senator needs to sponsor an unemployed citizen by bringing them to Washington and letting us speak our mind. They have more than enough money for a plane fare, hotel room and some food. They waste more than this on unused plane tickets. At least then, we would have more than a hundred citizens being heard on what it's like on the outside of their own little world and how selfish they are being. Whether it sinks in or not is another story. They are only concerned about themselves and their cronies and how much they can put in their pockets. They want to wipe out all classes of legal American citizens until only the wealthy were left. That is not what this country is suppose to be about.

I am 63 yrs old and my job was eliminated in June, 2009. I have been actively seeking employment with no success. I will run out of unemployment benefits in 4 weeks. This is an extremely stressful thought to have hanging over my head. I have been working for over 40 years and this was the first time I've received unemployment or any type of govenment help. I'm so disheartened by the fact that these senators can play with our lives like this. It's time to revamp our system so that the people are TRULY heard. No more special interest groups, no perks, no paybacks.

Bail out the banks, car companies but heave forbid, dont help the people out here who are struggling to exist day to day!!

It's just ironic that with the issue of some people losing everything because the extension is on hold...that all of the senate and congress will be going on "vacation" for two months starting the end of this month, whether a decision is made or not. It doesn't matter to them just so they can have a vacation. I'm sure the unemployed would love to have the money they spend on their vacations. (Remember their luxirious golf retreat where they were supposed to be working on the agenda. NOT ONE DID A BIT OF WORK ON THAT OUTING...and we paid for it. The unemployed would relished the money to feed their families and insure that they will still have a place to live by the end of the month....That's what is really pathetic!!! Hope they all get hit with a case of bad fortune the whole time they are away, if they do not get this fixed before they leave.. Let's not even forget how Pelosi had to have a plane....god forbid she would have to take a commerical flight like every other American citizen, or Hilda Solis with her make an illegal act legal, or that our government is going to sue the State that is making a stand for what is right. They waste money but we the American people pay for it Why do the Senate and Congress have to have such high salaries anyway? What do they do to warrant that much of the budget? We have turned into a wasteful me -me nation. GOD HELP WHAT WE HAVE BECOME!!!!

COME NOVEMBER WE WILL REMEMBER, This will be heard all over the united states when the 30 million unemployed vote this year. Yes recently on the senate floor a senator stated he believes 30 MILLION americans are unemployed with 2.4 million jobs available. The republicans believe we will forget as we all have had a blind eye to what is going on in our government. But they have gone to far, putting millions of unemployed middle class hard working people out on the street calling them drug users and lazy. Go to giveusourmoney.org for more info on what is going on right in plain sight together our voices will be heard e-mailing and calling senators every day. Keep the faith!

I feel it is time for us as Americans to stand up to this abuse of power by our Government. They use us to further

their own political motivations at the expense of the people and this nations best interests. They use the same

stale excuses over and over again like we are clueless lemmings which we have all sunken to following blindly. I

blame ourselves for letting this cancer of corruption spread for so long in our country. It is time for us to stand

up to these leaders who are driven by nothing but their own political agenda. We need to take a stand against this.

It is time for our voices to be heard and for us to take back this country from its path down a road of greed,

pride and morally corrupt machinations of power. This latest mess in congress just further proves how the majority of our leaders have become corrupt arrogant tyrants. I implore the people of this once great nation to fight against this tyranny

we have endured the past few decades and purge our nation of this sinister agenda of corruption and greed our

government has spewed forth on us all. It is OUR country and it is time for us to take it back.

Perhaps Congress and Senate who are dragging their feet on this extension issue, should agree to give a percentage of their wages, bonuses etc. to help fund the unemployment if they are so concerned about the deficit. I would like to see what they would do if they were put in the same position as all the unemployed people who are at their wits end wondering how they are gonna survive. I doubt they would ever have to stop and wonder where their next meal is going to come from, as all the food banks are well depleted by now, along with all the other aid sources that are on hold until they see what the outcome of the extension is going to be. What would they do if everything that they have worked for all their lives just vanished into thin air because the economy took a down turn and they were caught in the after effect? How could they even think of affording car insurance, which is a necessity, to even be able to go search for work, let alone how to get the money for the gas that the car needs to RUN ON? How could they afford food, health insurance rent or mortage payments, even utilities just to survive? Some have no family members to get loans from or even to move in with...as that was suggested for people to get by on....what about those people? Congress needs to put themselves in these people shoes and see how fast they pass the extension!!!!

For those who oppose H.R. 4213 I ask you to just relax and wait. Your turn to collect unemplyment is coming. If this recession continues you too will be needing some assistance to pay your mortgage, feed your family, take your pets to the vet, gas the car up to find other work. I swear, it is always the one with the full belly that complain the most about those in need. You selfish Un-American citizens! How dare you let your brother starve and you do nothing but degrade him. Shame on all of you!

think I am over qualified. But, for my daughter not to get a job there when they said they were hiring then turn around after and said they weren't.. It was not just one fast food, grocery store, etc it was a dozen or so who stated they were hiring.

My 16 yr old who has a 4.2 GPA takes AP Classes in the honor society can't even get a job here in Texas.. What is wrong with that picture???? My daughters best friend lost her mother to cancer last year and her dad was just recently laid off and he was the CFO of a very well known company and he can't find a job his daughter is also out there looking for a job went to the same places as my daughter did she applied there way before my daughter did and again she can't get a job...

Yeah, why now???? I agree this year why now is it a problem? We were paying unemployment for years!!!! And lets not continue to help New Orleans forget them is what I am reading on other post on the few people who disagree with unemployment and lets put the people who work for UI out of job and lets stop paying taxes that pay for the law enforcement and put them out of a job and triple-fold the crime rate.. Lets ask for more hurricanes to wipe out a whole town and destroy homes and peoples jobs, lives lets not give them anymore money. All of the sudden its become a problem this year with UI and it

Cont ( Part 2) I have spent all of my 401K, I have also borrowed from my life insurance, And recieved my last check from uneployment last week. And if the senate does not pass for an extension I will loose everything I have worked so hard for my car, my home. And to top it off, if I have to move I will have to pay $ 1500 for breaking the lease.. Like I have $ 1500?? So, either way you look at this we are all given false hope and we are getting punished by the goverment?? Damn if you do and Damn if you don't! So, I guess the senate doesn't care about the economy and the way we are getting treated.. And I guess he will sleep well out there knowing Over 3 Million people will probaly be homeless and out on the steets, mothers, fathers, babies, kids, on the streets.. How can he live with that??? This is just like being in a hurricane we are loosing our homes and everthing we have but the americans give back to emergency's and the goverment help out so being laid off from a job you worked for years and spending sleepless nights sending out resumes, going on one job interview after another... and given flase hope, informaion, etc and then worrying how your family is going to survive??? And the senate is showing he may not give a damn?? As they are punishing us our kids and forcing us out in the streets.. What did we do Wrong???

I have been working since I got out of college for the same company and never collected unemployment and never complained for the many of years I was employed for paying UI to help people. Another good point . When I was laid off with 18 other people back in January I did not run to the UI and start collecting UI... I started looking for a job the same day I was laid off and continued to look for a job every day as I am still doing and I as well have gone to the same grocery stores which is way below my profession to get a job. I have a degee and can't get a job at a grocery store as I assume they think I am over qualified.? But, I need a job! And, for my daughter not to get a job there when they said they were hiring then turn around after and said they weren't.. It was not just one fast food, grocery store, etc it was a dozen or so who stated they were hiring.

if my 16 year old daughter can't get a job at a resturant, grocery store, fast food etc that does clearly state they are hiriing in their window really should be looked at. She just wants a job so she can have money and she offered to help me. I did not ask her to go out an get a job she wanted to get a job. This should defintely be looked at if a mother and daughter are looking for a job every week and a teenage girl can't get a job it just shows even more that companies are just putting false information out there

I have been unemployed since January of this year from a company I was laid off with excellent reference. I have seen alot of people who are against uneployment and think weare lazy and not looking for a job???! I spend endless hours sending out over 100's resumes, job interviews, temp to hire agenices which are a JOKE! And, looking for two jobs not just one job.. Here is what I have notice and it should be looked into..This is my story..

I am a 41 year old single mother of a 16 year old daughter.. I have been working since I was 16 years old and never asked a dime off of anyone.. I was laid off in January and from day one I have been sending out 100's of resumes going to temp to hire agenies, going on Job interviews and what the senate needs to know is that there are alot of companies out there who say they are looking to hire and they really are not hiring the responces I have been getting is they decided to hire someone within the company, or they decided to hold off for another two or 3 months... Or they just changed their mind all togther and decided not to hire.. The tempoary agenices or a JOKE!!! I can't tell you how many times I was told I was prefect for a postition and they needed to get in touch with their client and it seems all temp agenices have the same answer they can't get a hold of their client, or the company is on a freeze.. It seems as though all temp agenices advertise these jobs that are really not there just to make them look good and waste our time on jobs that are not there.. For instance my daughter when to Mc Donald's to fill out an application as the sign in the window said " Now Hiring" same with Tom Thumb.. And both came back and said they will call when they are "Hiring" as they are not hiring at the moment" My daugter asked " Then why do you have a sign in your window that says " Now Hiring"? Neither person could give her an answer! So in the long run alot of us are getting false hope on companies who say they are hiring and they are not... And the temp agenices need to be reported..

I have been phoning Senators offices for the past 3 weeks explaining my situation.
I was laid off last November, and have just expired my FIRST 6 months of UI.
I have been turned down for several jobs, because I am 'overqualified'
I have 3 really good job prospects, one is actually a 6 figure salary, but none of them start until late July or early August.
I do not have money to pay for July"s rent, and am just awaiting my eviction notice.
I am driving without the legally required car insurance and with expired licence tags.
So, I would like to propose a few things:
First, if anybody gets evicted starting July 1st, let's start taking over the Senator's offices....use them to sleep in, send faxes, use the phones and their computers to find work.
Second, when we do find work, claim 99 exemptions. I REFUSE to PAY ANY MORE TAXES!! Remember the old saying 'No taxation without representation'?? Well, it is VERY obvious that Americans have no representation!! "Taxation without representation is TYRANNY!!"
Third, if this bill does not pass, everybody get your guns ready....and let BLOOD RUN IN THE STREETS!!!
The Tree Of LIBERTY is VERY thirsty, and it's time that it be watered with the BLOOD of the TYRANTS....CONGRESS!!!
We need to revolt and start a new revolution....NOW!!!
Many of us don't have much, if anything to lose anymore.
The most dangerous person is one with nothing left to lose!!
We can afford to GIVE Pakistan $7.5 BILLION to arm and train Taliban to kill AMERICAN soldiers.....we can afford to GIVE Egypt $7 Billion, we can afford to GIVE Haitian earthquake victims over $2 BILLION dollars, we can afford to GIVE $30 MILLION to Palestinian refugees...
We CAN AFFORD to keep the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent of the country at a cost of $1.8 TRILLION.
We CAN AFFORD to bail out Wall Street to the tune of $700 BILLION and buy GM, even though a huge majority told Congress NOT TO!!
But we CAN'T AFFORD to take care of middle class AMERICANS who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own???
And this is being decided by people that 'We the People' are paying!!!
'We the People' are ALLOWING these people to GIVE our tax dollars away to others, but they won't help us??? With OUR OWN MONEY????
I am absolutely ASHAMED of the Senators and to be called an American!!!
And Senators.....you should be ASHAMED of YOURSELVES!!!
Even more so if you consider yourself a 'christian'!!!
Would jesus ALLOW people to be thrown out of their homes and apartments??
Would he ALLOW them to go hungry???
And yet FUND a 9 YEAR war, in which thousands of innocents have been killed??

  • Daniel Nicolae - 14 years ago

I am no republican or democrat, don't trust much either idiots.
But I'd like to ask those (like Thomas or David above), what do they think about these moron democrats who would love to pass this crap with "cap and tax" legislation and put even more tens of thousands West Virginians out of work, and then become government dependents on a crappy check each week? You say republicans don't care about you? Do you think that the democrats care about you? BS, all they care is to get your vote, and keep you on government subsidies till you die. And this is only one examples of democrats "wisdom".
I don't need that, I'd rather start all over again, with a different job, then be at the limit of existence on the crumbs they give me as "help".
I will "Remember in November" !

People who can, need to even bring their whole families, children and all! This is an attack against the American family because if you're unemployed you can't properly provide for your family as is, but then to not get any money is a crying shame! Families are being affected, marriages are breaking up and babies are starving. Wake up Republicans, you cannot hid behind your glass upscale homes and expect the people to go away hungry and homeless. They will remember everything the Republicans did to hurt them and prevent them from providing for their families. Most people unemployed Republicans and Democrates see the Republicans as causing the block and they aren't happy.

  • TSARGE1976 - 14 years ago

I just wish these fools would put politics aside and pass the unemployment extension. It's just the right thing to do. If you are unemployed and collecting benefits then visit www.giveusourmoney.org

  • DAVID - 14 years ago

I AM A 46 YEAR OLD,AND I KNOW WHY THE REPUBLICANS ARE VOTEING NO ON EXTENDED UNEMPLOYMENT, THRY SAY THE DEMOCRAT'S NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PAY FOR IT. WHY ARE THE REPUBLICANS PAYING THE U.S. GOV TO REBUILD PAKISTAN, REBUILD IRAQ, AND BAIL OUT AIG AND WALLSTREET. THAT IS OUR MONEY, BUT THEY HAVE GOT STOCKS IN ALL THESE COUNTRIES, AND THEY HAVE STOCK'S IN AIG AND WALLSTREET THAT IS WHERE OUR MONEY IS GOING, TO EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, BUT THEY SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO EXTEND OUR UNEMPLOYMENT ALONG WITH A TIER 5. THEY DO NOT HAVE STOCK'S FOR THE UNEMPLOYED.OBAMA NEED'S TO GET OFF HIS BUTT AND VETO EVERYTHING THAT THE REPUBLICANS WANT TO PASS UNTIL THEY EXTEND UOR UNEMPLOYMENT WITH A TIER 5 INCLUDED

  • Thomas - 14 years ago

I am a 41 year old republican,I lost my job in May 2009,not because I'm lazy, but because my employer thought it was better for THEM,to move to Japan.I've gone back to school,as recommended by the DOL,to further my education,so that when or IF jobs return to my area ,I'll have a better chance at a better job.As I stated at the begining,I've allways been a republican,BUT,I'm no fool either,I can see who is MOSTLY RESPONSIBLE for this bill not having already passed. The repubs say it has to be paid for,but I do have to admit, they had no such concerns for President Bush's,tax cuts,or the many other UNPAID FOR things that they did.I guess it's diffrent, when it's just an average Joe,trying to feed his children .
