Did Apple do the right thing by offering free rubber bumpers for iPhone 4?

I have just paid £600 for a phone with reception issues. On a recent 100 mile drive to Somerset, UK to drop my son off for summer camp I experienced many no service periods, dropped calls and poor quality conversations on the iphone 4. The other two iphone 3g's in the car didn't display the same problems and nearly always had a full signal bar. I don't recall ever having had a dropped call with previous iphones and certainly people on the other end of a call have never complained on a regular basis that they can't understand what I am saying.

I think the phone4 problem should be sorted out properly. I, as an Apple devotee am now very wary of the iphone4 and will most probably be returning it within the next 30 days and going back to using my old iphone.

I feel Apple has seriously dented the trust that people had in Apple products and that people will be very wary in future believing Apple to be arrogant and self-serving.
