Should the Claiborne Avenue overpass on I-10 be dismantled?

    Not No, But Hell No!

Could you imagine trying to get from Below Elysian Fields to Uptown or vice-versa on during Mardi Gras season. I just don't see it. Suburban shopping centers killed the Claiborne shopping area not the I-10.

NO-I dont think the overpass should be demolished, not only is it vital to the economics of the city but an essental lifeline in times of emergancy;Look at pictures of the area durring Betsy and Katrina to determine if a neutral ground is worth preventing emergancy resonders from being able to access a whole section of the city and dening the people of the area high ground to evacuate WHEN the next storm comes.

The news reports said that the demolition was necessary to connect two important areas of the city (paraphrase). But that section of the interstate already does connect the city -- it provides a much needed way for people to get to and from New Orleans East, Downtown and Uptown. Am I missing something? Here's an idea: if the city is strapped for money, it could turn it into paid parking for people going to the soon to be built (?) medical complexes on Canal and Tulane, and offer a shuttle. The city could use those hydraulic lifts so that two cars can be parked, one on top of the other.

No! by no means should it be widened, that would cause people to their homes and businesses. A HOV lane is not necessary.

If its in that bad shape yes tear it down but only with approved and paid plans of redevelopment of the business and homes on Claiborne from Elysian Fields to Tulane. It should not be destroyed and Claiborne abandoned.

It doesn't need to be torn down. It needs to be widened by a couple of lanes in each direction. It also needs a HOV lane. We can start talking about knocking it down again after we have a comprehensive mass transit system in place.

SURE, TEAR IT DOWN. SHOULD HOLD ABOUT 50 HOMELESS PEOPLE WHO WOULD HAVE A PLACE TO URINATE.
