Well, you shouldn't according to me, and for that matter no poet should, I believe. Because a poem should be complete by itself and even if the poem is abstract, it should appeal differently to different readers rather not appealing at all (which I'd call a failure poem). A poem should be complete in itself. My two cents :)

Well you should provide explanations for some poems which seem to need them!
