It has to be Tom Welling. So many people have seen him as this generation's Clark Kent, and, recently, Superman, for the past ten years. Many kids have grown up associating him as the Man of Steel. He is recognized as Superman of our time, and simply deserves the role for all the time he put in for Smallville.

Tom welling is the ideal candidate for the role. He has a 10 year experience and preparation on the character of superman, something that none else has. He also has the body with height and mass strength in muscles as well as face for the role. All he needs is some fitness to make the lines come out.
To all those who support brandon routh. He had his chance. I love superman. In his movie i fell asleep. He didnt connect with the superman character at all. No emotions could be seen from him. He was like he was chocking up while trying to keep the role. He tried so congrats for his effort but the superman character needs more than that. Tom welling has it. Reeves believed it and so does the world. If WB puts somebody else for the role then im not watching the movie. Im tired of crap movies coming out and we go and watch them as an excuse cause of their names. Enough is enought. Its time for the companies to listen to the people and stop playing with our money and time.

Joe is my 1st pick...but Welling is right there with him....Smallville is and has been one of my favorite shows....but I have been really lucky to have met Joe in Person and just being in his presence and seeing him up close...WOW...WOW...I would probably feel the same way about Tom if I had that opportunity, but I just haven't...both make a great Clark...just Tom has had the chance to prove it...
Brandon did NOT prove himself in the last Superman movie and the $$$ box office proved it...they need Joe or Tom.....

I'm 16 and I've watched Smallville since it first aired in the UK - It was so fantastic, I've ALWAYS been a major Superman fan, followed the comics as a kid and I never thought Smallville would live up to the Superman mythology; but Tom Welling portrays Clark Kent so amazingly and he is believable. Growing up watching Tom play Clark, I've grown somewhat attached to the story line of ' Clark realizing his true destiny' and I think, personally, Tom playing Superman in the reboot is the ONLY option. Yes, Brandon played him in Superman returns (2006) but that was 4 years ago, and it failed quite abit- it didn't live up the the AUDIENCES expectations. I think Tom should play the part, he has this huge fan base already, so many other people who agree with me. It would be spectacular for his portrayal of Clark to actually be given the technology and special effects which weren't really up to scratch in Smallville - it would be the next step for the story of Superman, please keep it flowing. Dont ruin it now.

Someone new should play Superman i.e. Logan Lerman, he will be 20 in 2012 so about the right age, maybe not the right age in 2012 but the right age for a long term commitment to the franchise as he is young enough to portray superman for 12-15 years! Also they could cast a foreigner for Jor El i.e. Martin Sweet of the Swedish Sleaze rock band, he kinda looks a bit like Superman but with long hair although too old for Superman himself therefore should be considered for Jor El :D.

Jackal, you don't know what you are talking about. Welling always wins these polls, and usually by big numbers. Routh has never won a head-to-head match up in any public poll. The moment any of these polls gets linked to Facebook or Twitter, the avalanche comes. Even back in 2006, months after Returns came out, 10,000 AOL paid subscribers voted Welling as their favorite Superman, by a huge margin. The public has always liked Welling best and will continue to do so until offered something better. Maybe Jon Hamm? Who knows? Until then, Welling will just keep on dominating the polls.

I, like most, feel that Tom Welling (and Brandon Routh) has the best chance. I agree that Brandon looks a lot like Mr. Christopher Reeves (my idol when I was in my youth) and would probably play a decent part as the man of steel. But, I also believe Tom Welling will portray the character better. To my understanding the 'blue and red' suit will finally be worn in season 10 of Smallville. This will perfect for Tom to continue his roll as 'the man of steel' on the big screen after smallville's season ends. He can leap tall building, why not allowing him to leap from TV to the big screen.
My final words are: when the movie finally comes out, regardless who is going to wearing the 'blue and red' tights, it is sure to be an awesome film. It may be a bit darker when Supe gets Peed-off at something. this is all I know.
Good luck Nolan Brothers. We, fans, know you will do your best to cast the BEST for this role to which has become a huge icon.

To do this movie, it has to be done right, just like Marvels Incredible Hulk! was so much better than the first! Out of the options we have here, Brandon Routh is by far much better fitted for the role than the others, for one, he looks like Clark Kent /Superman where the others apart from Tom Welling, aren't believable enough to be or look like Superman. Tom Welling i think is too boyish looking, obviously because of playing Clark as a boy growing up to be a young man. It's got to be Brandon Routh.
