How should restaurants handle presenting a check at the end of a meal?

The server should ask if I/we would like anything else. If we don't, drop the check.

The server should specifically offer to bring the check.

The server should just drop the check when s/he thinks we're ready for it.

I'd rather ask for the check when I'm ready.
