In my life and family we have a running comment/joke - 'make sure that there are fire extinguishers in the kitchen when tara cooks' and 'tara, please pay attention to what you are doing when you are using knives'. All of the sharp instruments in my kitchen are dull for a reason, since when they are sharp I am bound to cut myself. I have come to know every possible cure for any type of burn as well. So, when the time came to call the ambulance for a possible poisoning due to exposure from a burning teflon pan, no one in my family was surprised. What has been surprising lately is that in the last two years I have had no major incidents or accidents in the kitchen - the firemen in our city no longer know me by address and first name! To ask if I have had injuries in the kitchen seems an odd question..doesn't everyone injure themselves when they cook!
