As a student who has grown up in this community, I'm still annoyed that this bus is getting cut-back. It took the community members years to actually get this bus, and although I see many people take it every day, those wanting to get rid of it act as though nobody takes it! If they wanted to make more money off of the route, then how about extending its hours? Most of the students (from jr.high through to university) as well as many others in the community have not only job hours, but a social life that extends past the last bus time heading to the loop (7:40pm). I believe that if they even added a few more runs in the evening, enough so people could get home from part-time jobs, as well as some runs on the weekend they would see more people using our bus.
I know that for me personally this cut-back simply means that I will probably not be taking the bus anymore. It's forcing me to get my liscense (a cost I definitly did not need on top of tuition fees) because those hours will never work for a university course schedule, nor for any part-time job... and I'm sure that their are many who are going to be in the same situation.

How can a service be evaluated before it has begun? Council decided to make cust in May, a scant 6 months after inplementing Sambro's half-servce. Talk about tokenism:
My suggestions
Increase service around the entire loop
Increase runs per day from 6:00-10:00PM
Increase frequency to once an hour
Increase days to 7 days a week
Leave it in place minimum of 18 months...then consider an evaluation.

I think it's a shame that they are reducing the service. The people in the community who use the service have gotten used to it running more often during the day. If it is too expensive to maintain the existing service with the current bus, then maybe a smaller bus or mini-van can be used to accomodate the existing service.

As a member of the Harrietsfield/Williamswood/Sambro Transit Committee I feel we were short changed right from the start when we were told we would be getting a community bus and not a regular transit run and would be a pilot project for one year. "Pilot" meaning an example to the rest of the suburban areas as a shining example for community service and not temporary as what the real meaning suggests.
The criteria for a community bus service is different than regular transit service and therefore, subject to change whenever the powers that be sees fit.
We in the Sambro Loop were short changed right from the start of the amalgamation process when our area remained under the jurisdiction of the province while paying taxes to the new municipality known as HRM. It was all smoke and mirrors as the Harrietsfield/Williamswood/Sambro community were denied services such as city policing and Metro Transit. It was only through the relentless dedication of community minded people that brought about the services of Metro Transit and city policing. Now, we have another battle to prevent cuts to our bus service.

More advertising for this run would be beneficial...Also, it should be included with the route schedule booklet instead of being seperate and the call center should be more updated on the community runs and where they actually go!
