What do you think about live shows by pop music acts?

You never really know how good a band is until you see them live.

I only go to small club shows by bands you've never heard of, so I can sneer at people who discover them after they hit it big.

They're ok, but way too expensive for me.

Why would I want to hear ragged live versions of songs when I have perfect studio albums in arcane lossless digital formats?

I only listen to music on vinyl records. Live shows are way too high-fidelity for me.

I only listen to classical/ jazz/ world folk music/ experimental sounds of my own devising, and would never sully my ears with pop music, live or recorded.

Music? What's that?

Some acts just don't translate - Aimee Mann for example I enjoy recorded, but was awful live. Thankfully her supporting act (David Ford) was and is fabulous in both formats, so the concert was worthwhile for his discovery.

I very much enjoy the experience of a live act and the ability to talk to the performers. Two of our favourite bands - Dave's True Story and GrooveLily - we met this way, while a third artist - Marian Call - should be doing a house concert at our place in October.

Mostly, though, yet another casualty of parenthood.
