America is Islamo-ignorant. Most of what people know comes from corporate TV and misguided preachers who still push the biblical canon presented under Constantine and whatever "conservative" political group is galloping around with the crown. They don't know, in general, what's really going on.

    Stephen,

I know what you're talking about, and 9/11 was hard to all of us. I'm an Egyptian Muslim, and my great uncle was *there*, *inside* the WTC at the time it happened. He survived, but many didn't. Half of my biological family hold the American passport. It's hard to all of us.

The difference between the two examples you have here is that us, Muslims, are labeled by what we believe in. There are terrorists in Egypt, believe it or not, just like any other country - historical and touristic sites were destroyed by terrorists here, but do we know what those terrorists are? Whether they're Christian, Jewish, Muslims or even atheists no one really cares. And if a group of "Christian" terrorists were to blow up one of the pyramids, and then a church was to be built there, believe me, no one will ever connect them. A high percentage of Egyptians are Christian - my class at school had 3 out of 25. No one's against them and no one will be after said terrorism attacks.

People have the right to believe in whatever they want to believe in and practice it freely as long as they don't harm others - anywhere, at any time.

I am an American, and here in America there are over 1200 Mosques according to ReligiousTolerence.org. There is very little Islamophobia here in American. This issue is way overblow by our American media, who love to paint us in a bad light. Consider the issue of the Mosques near the site of the World Trade Center. Image that Christian Terrorist had blown up one of the Pyramids. And then another Christian Group wanted to build a church on that site. How would you feel? Even if the group wanting to build the church was totally unrelated to the terrorist, I think that many Egyptians would be upset, just like many Americans are about the proposed Mosques near the site of the World Trade Center.
