Have you ever eaten with someone who's tried to cheat on the bill?

I get asking for your food to be replaced if you legitimately find hair. I wouldn't because why waste food and I lack concern for hygiene I guess, but I understand why people would.

I don't however understand trying to scam a free meal. You see I don't support capital punishment. I think murders and the like should be locked away and hopefully we can one day figure out how to actually rehabilitate people. The one exception is people who stiff the waitstaff at an establishment.

Those people are heartless and don't have any concern for the well being of others. As leaches on society they should be removed. Also, If I believed in a traditional sense of afterlife... They deserve to go down there.

    Terrible people.

My mother used to go to lunch with a group of ladies once a month. 2 of the women (both in their late 60's) bragged repeatedly that they hadn't paid for a meal in more than 5 years. I used to wait tables and saw this scam run over and over. Used to piss me off when the manager would bend over and comp EVERYTHING. Like some of the posters above, I used to see "hair" come back when the meal was 3/4 finished. Of course on 1 particular plate, no one in the kitchen or any waitstaff had long red hair, but the woman's companion sitting next to her did. She also complained the food was cold, etc., but not only said nothing the first 2 times I went back, but had the meal split in the back prior to bringing it out. The other person had no problem with his meal. And to top it off, the whineypants had the NERVE to demand a "Doggie Bag" to take the rest of the offending food home! No tip of course, but they sat in my section for nearly 2 hours, meaning I couldn't make money off that table. Freaking A-HOLES.

I often walk away with a spoon or other thing... Am I a thief?

When I go to a restaurant, I go for quality food, I don't go so they can mess it up and get a discount from it. I want everything to go perfectly. I'd be embarrassed to eat with a person like this. Do people like this really think this is the way to get whatever they want? Because if so, they really need a reality check. I hope no one would put up with that.

Similar things have happened to my coworkers and I. Long hairs come back on plates when only guys with very short hair are working. Three high school girls deliberately bungled their order, then cried to the manager that they ordered things like steaks and shrimp to pay the cheap item price, "i said grilled prime rib, not a prime cheeseburger. she just wasn't listening." Younger customers split their check and only pay 3 of the 4 tickets. Kids "go to the bathroom" then walk out the side door without paying. Wait staff ends up paying when jackasses lack simple respect.

Things hapen. Yes we all go to the restaurant and expect food that is properly prepared and is safe. It should be brought to the restaurant's attention. Most establishments will do whatever they can to make it right by replacing your dish or other compensation. If not then pay for your meal and never go back.

    Robert,
I don't agree with the scam and think its classless and rude. But if there is a hair in your food that is preventing you from eating it... why pay for inedible food? The restaurant is supposed to provide clean food and should know if there is a health issue so they can correct it.

I would never do that. I have found hair in my food 3 times and it makes me sick to my stomach. I have to stop eating, and will never go back to that restaurant again. Pay and just leave.
