I was preparing my volunteer forms for Best Friends and saw Chop mentioned in one of the sections about the Parrot House. I think it said that you went to Best Friends for 10 days to teach the parrot people about Chop. My CAG, Mojo, and I have a running joke that at the very least, if he picks up a piece of broccoli or spinach and throws it out of his cage, at least it will have touched his lips. I went shopping today and plan to make a big batch of Chop tomorrow. I think this is the answer to my little companion's fruit addiction!

I saw your blog off of the florida parrot rescues facebook and website and was inspired to make a new batch of chop :) My two cockatiels and parakeet love it! Now they get chop twice a day like your birds and pellets in between :)

There is no recipe. It's a "concept." You use what is fresh, what is available and in season. Here is a link to one of the videos that explains how to make "Chop."

Wanted to let you know that Raleigh Durham Caged Bird Society did a "Chop Fest" for our Bird Blub Meeting on Oct 16, 2011. It was very well attended, we made a huge mess, lots of "chop" and everyone got to take a bunch of it home. Phoenix Landing folks from the Wilmington drove up and joined us. Our NC State Fair was this week also, and since I was a volunteer for our education booth there, I took along a bag of "chop" each day that I was staffing the booth (5 days of the ten). It was a great example of good food for your feathered companions and something we have done as a club that was fun, educational and almost free. We have decided to add it to our annual lineup of club meeting activities.
Hope someone adds photos to our website soon. I know lots of photos & video were taken.
Thanks for coming up and sharing this with us in June...
BTW, we had NO "BIG ASS POT" and managed just fine~

The jury is still out on some of the members of my flock. My Conure is a hog and will eat anything... he loves chop. My Macaw, she is picky so it is a crap-shoot on if she will eat it or not. The Cockatiels pick through it, the Quakers are undecided and the new baby Grey is not sure of any "fresh" foods at the moment so we will have to see how it goes for him. I guess it is a good thing I have one pig in my flock because I have 70 bags of chop to use up!

Beany Weany Chop - which I spent making on January 1st - is a big flop. My little flock doesn't like it. But the previous chop with all the greens is a very big hit. Don't tell the parrots but tomorrow I am going to try and mix them together to see if someone will eat some of the Beany Weany.

Thank you for the idea. It is a lot of work to do the Chop - - but every morning when I am dishes up the veggies I am very happy because it is so easy.
