What should happen with the 2005 Heisman Trophy?

You can't fix stupid. The rules are pure hypocrisy, the players come from total poverty and who knows how many Heisman winners are just as guilty of getting a little extra "financial aid". As long as football is all about winning, you can't bitch about the purity & character of guys taking their only shot out of the ghetto nor judge them for trying to help out their family with ZERO financial saavy. The Heisman should be retired permanently as a relic of a fantasy that doesn't acknowledge reality.

Carlos is right!! I think USC should give all the profits that where made in Reggies name into a fund that will benefit poor kids who want to attend college. I think they are HYPOCRITES!!

  • Wayde Dudley - 14 years ago

Give it to Obama. It would not be the first award he did not deserve.

  • Scott Kemper - 14 years ago

Reggie deserved the Heisman on merits and Vince didnt even come close. Yes he broke the rules but worse has been done. He never cheated in his ability to earn it and Vince never measured up to the quality of play. So yes it should be vacated since he has given it up.

Many things in life are all or nothing. Integrity and character, for example. Bush demonstrated that he has neither. Vacating the award puts all on notice that there is finality in things, no going back. There was one chance only to give the award. Subsequently we learn the recipient is unworthy. There was but one chosen recipient. It makes no sense now to choose the worthiest. The award was made with the best information at the time. Shame forever on Bush.

Vince Young should get the Trophy..

Too many of us naturally look at Vince Young now.., which is wrong.

He deserves the trophy, there are no questions.

It should be given to Vince Young with gratitude for what he gave to the game during those years.

    Hip Hop Hooray...

You used them and abused them...any college scholar athlete who tries to actually learn something with that free college education at the expense of improving as a ATHLETE\TEAMMATE would be dealt with severely! HYPOCRITES!!!

OOOhhh but what's this...one of these beasts of burden managed to get a few crumbs for himself and his family...for shame, for shame!!! Ooooooohhh and what's THIS...they even eeked out a toy or two???

These college boys are only playing a game where they SHOULD\SUPPOSED TO GET HURT\INJURED...

What should we do about it? Bury it! Let's get on with today's and tomorrow's sports reporting.

Reggie Bush won that trophy 784 to 79. Vince Young was no where near touching him for the Heisman. Why except something 5 years later when you got your A$$ handed to you by the voting committee. Besides Vince Young shouldnt deserve it after the Stunt he pulled with the Tennessee Titans..that was really mature..

  • D. West - 14 years ago

It seems foolish that O.J. Simpson gets to keep his Heisman trophy, but Reggie can't. It's also clear they need to update the NCCA rules regarding college athletes. Suspending a player for selling his shirt to someone is obsurd. College players should be allowed the same basic freedoms as any other normal student. Also, if an NFL player violates a rule, such as taking steroids, do they take away his team's NFL championship? No, and neither should the NCCA.

Even as a Texas-Ex and lifelong longhorm fan I don't think it should be re-awarded to anyone. If the voters thought Bush was the best player in the country I don't see how anything has changed. It's done. Over. Move on. I can't imagine Vince Young would find any glory in a second-hand award. He has his National Championship and his career. Why would he want a Heisman with an asterisk ?

  • kfun - 14 years ago

Anyone who saw the Rose Bowl that season knows who the best player in the country was. Vince Young was amazing that night, and he continues to display the qualities of a true Heisman trophy winner today.

  • J Drisc - 14 years ago

Give it to Vince. He was number 2 in the balloting and was clearly better than Reggie anyway.

  • Ron - 14 years ago

Present it to Obama. I believe he would have won it if he'd had the opportunity. Know what I mean Vern?

  • Jim O - 14 years ago

Give it to a player who isn't a lying, cheating, ungrateful bastard!!!!!!!!!

  • John Lockhart - 14 years ago

Let the record show that Bush was disqualified. Right is right. Wrong is wrong. This kind of behavior by college athletes is getting all to common. Fifty years from now. The written record will be the only truth. This is by the way,
the most coveted award in college football. No need to hand them out like Tootsie Rolls to those who don't live by the rules.

  • dhart - 14 years ago

Young led Texas to the National Championship beating USC as well as having a great season.

  • Raul - 14 years ago

who cares,, most all cheat , Pussy Woods , Manny the hair take away thier drugs what do you have mediocore players

  • JBON - 14 years ago

Have it installed in the ........HALL OF SHAME.........

  • OKC Poke Fan - 14 years ago

Give it to the OU Sooners who would have won the National Championship in Reggie's absence.

  • Anglo - 14 years ago

Reggie failed the test required to qualify for the award, essentially taking himself off the ballot. The voters made their choice, with VY being the top vote getter among the eligible players. Add in the fact VY beat Reggie for the national championship and was most essential to his team, I dare say had the vote been taken after the game, with both VY and Reggie on the ballot, some Reggie votes would have gone to VY. The vote is a snapshot taken at the time, the voters "awarded" the Heisman to VY as the best player on the ballot...Reggie's name wasn't listed...

This award epitomizes the hypocrisy in college football, where the athletes are supposed to be amateurs but there are billion-dollarTV contracts and multi-million-dollar footwear contracts involved. There should be no Heisman award for Division I football.

I think the House of Representatives needs to hold hearings. This could be as big as Roger Clemons.

Is this a great counthry or what? Where is Pogo when we need him?

  • elchingon - 14 years ago

    fuck reggie

  • Bill Nye - 14 years ago

It should be blown up in a grand scientific experiment showing how powerful cherry bombs can actually be if used in the proper quantity.

  • BLACKANIMAL - 14 years ago

If your Vince Young do you even want the Heisman 5 years later? He was still second in the voting before we knew what Bush was up to.

  • Jack Guerrier - 14 years ago

The trophy should be awarded to the Football hall of Fame with a caption that for the 2004/5 season the trophy was awarded to all college football players past and future, who play the game with integrity.
The numbers may have been larger but Bush did nothing that most all headline players have done in the past and will continue to do in the future.

  • hammond - 14 years ago

it should be given to young instead of vacated because if it isn't give to anyone else, everyone will still remember bush as the heisman winner

  • craig - 14 years ago

You might as well just flush it down a toilet. Your actions in stripping the trophy from someone whose violation is practically insignificant compared to say a convicted felony Heismann trophy winner has tarnished the value of the dumb thing completely. I would not be surprised to see some future canidate refuse to accept a trophy with such a checkered past.

  • james douglas - 14 years ago

It should be given to Vince Young because he should have won it in the first place.

  • johns - 14 years ago

Return the millions of dollars generated for the fat cats. USC should keep the award to signify the business success in dollars and fame generated by Bush's play. Hypocrisy rules in college sports.

  • Sharon M - 14 years ago

I agree with Carlos. The NCAA deemed Reggie ineligble. The NCAA also said USC must cut all ties with him. His jersey was removed from the Coliseum and his Heisman copy had to be returned. Since all things Reggie
must be erased how is it that the NCAA is not demanding USC return the millions they profited from the 2004-05 season which he was part of. They have stripped the records why have they not stripped the winnings? The NCAA should be relentlessly persuing this just as they did Reggie. Big name colleges with star athletes profit unimaginable revenue and staggering bonuses for bowl participation and the ultimate ,winning a championship title. All as the direct result of the talent of these players. If the colleges were made to give these players some of those profits and protect them from the unsavory individuals who seek them out bribing them into situations as Reggie's, it would remove the temptation. Does anyone honestly think that Reggie Bush is the first college player to receive money and gifts from outside wolves who see them as lambs to slaughter? No, he was just a bigger one to catch and he and USC's downfall made better headlines and a bigger spectacle. So NCAA why aren't your demanding money returned that USC didn't rightfully win?

  • johns - 14 years ago

Return the millions of dollars generated for the fat cats. USC should keep the award to signify the business success in dollars and fame generated by Bush's play. Hypocrisy rules in college sports.

  • Richard Tenser - 14 years ago

Give it to Young since he likely would have recived the most votes if Bush had not been in the running. While not a perfect solution, it is the best of the various alternatives. It would also set a good precedent for the future, for the Heisman as well as for other awards.

  • carlos k. - 14 years ago

now that you punished usc and basically made reggie's college career disappear, give back all the millions you guys made off reggie playing those games.lets investigate that!you are a bunch of hypocrites!

  • matrixcl65 - 14 years ago

What hypocrites by the other Heisman brothers
It is supposed to be a special fraternity and brotherhood
And now you callous, jealous, sad members are going to sacrifice Reggie bush? Wow, better be carefull
    Suppose he start talking?

  • Mario M. - 14 years ago

A third option is to vote again. With Reggie Bush out of the equation, Vince Young may not get the most votes. It could go to someone else (e.g. Matt Leinart).
