I think Bonnie would be the best match for Damon because she's harsher on him than Elena. Personally, I think Elena lets him get away with far too much and she's always forgiving him. No wonder Damon always seems to be going on a bender every 5 episodes or so; Elena always ends up forgiving him no matter what. Bonnie would keep him in check.
I also think Bonnie and Damon are the most compatible because they are very much alike. They're both loyal, strong, witty, hardheaded, and instinctive. Granted, those particular traits make their personalities clash a bit, but it also gives them insane chemistry and I think that makes them the most entertaining characters to watch.
Elena and Damon together would just be disastrous. It would be a the whole Stefan/Katherine/Damon love triangle fiasco again and it would totally just mess up the characters. Seriously, if it does happen, I doubt the viewers will be as happy as they thought they would be.
Plus, I think it would totally be out of Elena's character to actually start a romance with Damon. Sure, there's obviously attraction, but Elena would never ever hurt Stefan in that way (remember the whole issue in 2x01: The Return when Damon thought he kissed Elena?).
The other female character wouldn't ever hook up with Damon. The whole Damon/Caroline thing played out and that was just a downright abusive relationship. Jenna clearly hates Damon and there's no chemistry (and that would just be plain awkward). And, well, we all know how the Katherine thing played out...

There is so much chemistry between those two. It's one of those relationships where they either gonna f** eachtother or kill eachother. And after all those opportunities to end eachother's lives no one went through with it.
Bonnie can keep Damon in check. They are both passionate people and act out of instinct. To top it all off they are both very loyal (at least, when they love someone) - Elena wouldn't know how to handle Damon.
And first to sleep with one brother and then with the other?! Yuck! She would be Katherine - not just a look-a-like.

direction of the books eventully Elena will have plenty of moments with Damon.To all thoes who have read the books Elena starts out hating Damon,but eventully she learns 2 love him.

Bonnie and Damon hate each other- but they really do have awesome chemistry. Ultimately I do want to see Damon win Elena back, but I wouldn't mind Bonnie and Damon having a short fling.

I am a firm believer and supporter of Stelena, therefore my vote has to go with Bonnie. I think Damon & Bonnie have great potential as a couple, and could make the show really interesting if they go that direction. Plus, right now she hates him, and I'd really like to see how Damon could make her feelings change about him. And I do think they'll have more scenes together for this to happen, because I heard that Damon's going to try and get Bonnie on their side of the battle against the wolves and Katherine/Caroline. All in all, I think they'd make for a really interesting couple.

@NATASHALUVSDELENA, I've read all the books and Damon and Bonnie don't hook up in them anyway, so even if the show was to follow the romance plot lines, the two characters wouldn't hook up. *shrugs*

There is soo much hate on the show that some couples ( DELENA) read into it as love, but between Damon & Bonnie, ya theres only hatred. Katerina Graham said in an interview the show is not like the books, so they arent going to get together. As a fan of Delena if they do I'd break my tv.
