I'd personally go with the 27" iMac, I should have done this but decided to purchased core i5 macbook pro which just sites on my desk next to my monitor (that I purchased for an extra 600$) oh and not to mention the extra 1TB external I picked up ($100) for all my media, and keyboard ($70) and magic mouse ($70)... I could have spent less money on a faster (GHz) processor and larger HD 27" iMac. that comes with the same keyboard I bought. Oh i also forgot about the 40$ usb hub i grabbed.

save the money and pick up the iMac. ... BLAH

My first Mac was from way back in the 90's, and it was a Macintosh Centris 610. I was about 7 years old, and I loved it so much that I never wanted to stop using it. My mom had to take it away from me eventually! Then when I was 16, I got my first job, working from home designing websites for corporations, and saved up to buy my first (pre-unibody) MacBook Pro. I bought the iPhone 3G shortly afterwards. Then, I sold the MacBook Pro and used the cash to purchase my second one, now in the unibody design. I bought the iPhone 4 when it came out as well. I also started working at the Apple Store recently, and acquired an iPad to round out my collection :)

I used Apple II, IIe, VAX, Mac, FatMac, PC-xt, AT, Mac II (color), Amiga various PCs, and iMac. The current Mac w/ OS X 10.6 (which is really mostly NeXT OS) is the best system I have ever used.

If you don't really uses a laptop to go portable very often, then the iMac offers much better value, and a larger gorgeous screen. It might be a better option for you. Having a laptop while on the move is great, but it can also be a liability. You have to carry the weight, and always be on the alert that it is not stolen. It can be freeing not to have one. It depends on your lifestyle.

One option might be to get an iMac and with the extra money that would have been used on an expensive MacBook Pro, on an iPad. This way you would still have some portability around the house, or an occasional on-the-go.

The first Mac I ever used regularly was a Mac Plus, but the first one I actually purchased was a Mac SE, which is still sitting in a closet along with a G3 and Power PC clone. I currently use a 17" Macbook Pro and my husband has an iMac.

It was a happy, happy day, when I got my first Macbook (my first apple in 20 years - after the Apple IIe), after a year of imploding/blue-screening pc's. It honestly changed my life. 3 years later (yeah - THREE years - I was so happy with my Macbook) I finally got my 21.5" iMac - and again - it has served me faithfully since then. Zero problems. Zero hassles. Just pure awesomeness from day one.

My husband and I met - on an MCSE course 11 years ago - (yeah, we used to think Microsft WAS all that), and after seeing me make the switch and how happy I've been, and how amazing both macs have been, he now swears that he'll never buy another pc again, ever.

Should be able to select more than one option, since I've got more than just 1 type and I think there are lots of others that fall in the same boat.

I have always been a lover of Mac for many years, but here in South Africa it is a very expensive item, so owning one was never really a viable option. My husband owned a Mac desktop (not sure what model) around 1998. We eventually moved out of the country in 2001, so we sold that Mac. Then I never owned a Mac again until Dec 2008 when I bought myself a MacBook. I'm still using it and I think I can honestly say that I will never go back to a pc ever again .... I also got an iPhone in late 2009 and I'm not looking back ! I'm now completely converted to Apple and I think my kids are also slowly but surely turning into Apple fan boys and girls. I come across so many people that ask me why I'm using a Mac and what makes it so special, but I find it difficult to explain my reasons to Windows people in 1 or 2 sentences, because most people really have no idea what Macs are like ... so I usually end up by saying something like "its in a different class" or "its the whole experience that is so awesome" etc etc .. which really don't justify Macs at all .... I think people need to have a hands-on experience with a Mac to REALLY understand what its all about. Buy all I always say is that I switched over to Mac and I'm NOT going back :-)

Had an SE/30 back in the day, then a IIcx, then moved away for a bit. Now, I have a MacBook for portability and an iMac with an extra cinema display at home. Technically, I also had an iBook in there as well, but barely ever used it. It's only in the last year or so that I was finally able to get off the Microsoft bandwagon, realized Linux on the desktop isn't there yet, and that MacOS would solve all my problems/needs.

I am a Software Developer and I although I have made most of my career in Microsoft Technologies, I started on a Mac, Apple 2e. I have owned a Mac off and on, but just recently purchased a MacBook Pro about 9 months ago. It was in the year 2000 that I sold my MacBook G3!

I have never been happier with a system. Ever.
