I got to say that I think a lot of the people that say "no" to the anon comments don't actually mean it. People don't want to admit it, but the anon comments are interesting and entertaining. Otherwise, they'd just ignore them like a lot of other comments. There is a reason why some posts are un-replied and untouched by someone. A lot of users have the same mentality as anons (certainly there are a lot of anons that are dumber than users but plenty are not), and a name does not define you as a person. And if it's true that some celebrities use anonymous commenting, I don't think we should deny them that small right of anonymity when in the real world they get almost none.
If the site is suddenly so gung ho about unregistered users, it should pick a few smart registered users that can have a password to moderate only comments that are anonymous (registered comments would be blocked to them).
The anons are just not as hated as thought, though people would like them to be. Another idea I have is the option for registered users to turn off viewing anonymous commenting in their options.
