I am the Studio & Design Manager, within a banking / software environment, I am the only designer, so my job is very varied and I spend a lot of my time with clients both internal and external, coming up with concepts and finished designs. I have a unique position, in where I could be designing brackets for mounting eftpos terminals, in CAD to designing Logo's and web based interfaces, for individual clients, and that can be in the space of 2-3 hours...
I love what I do, it's the best job...

Best to you and thanks for helping to educate this 50yr old. By the way the learning process got me the job and I was able to get myself off the streets due to the job...

I work as a designer amongst other things for a software development company. I love to design and always aim to deliver, most of the time I do, however, like most designers, hard work, effort, attention to detail, speed of turn around (list is endless) it generally goes unnoticed. Marketeers that I work with don't generally understand the design process and consider it 'easy'. As you may know, it's far from that conclusion. Their understanding is limited to 'pretty pictures' as opposed to a hardcore real design solution and generally think that by waving a magic wand a solution is easily found. This is irrespective if it's a iPhone UI design, infographics, downloadable White Paper (often of which spelling, grammar and chronology amongst many other considerations are given minimal consideration. So, the work is varied interesting and certainly challenging, however, the entire experience is made hundred times harder by poor planning, poor understanding, poor execution resulting in a poor solution that I often have to endlessly chase basic information. Working hard, yes. Working smart, definitely not. I could write an essay, but I need to get back on the treadmill.

I love to work as a freelancer. The freedom of creation is much higher than workin in an agency.
The only two things are, on which I also work every day: Discipline and trust in myself.
