The fact that "under god" was ever added is offensive. An American should be free to believe or not believe what they choose. "A man is welcomed to a church for what they believe and turned out by what they know" Mark Twain - yes most Athiests are the great minds of past and present - not naive followers that are afraid of the great papa in the sky - Wake up! Live a good kind life simply because it's the right thing to do - not just because you'll be rewarded in heaven or sent to the depths of "...."

I wish people who only think religious freedom is soley for christians would leave my great country called America. You people suck big time and wonder why so many people are defecting from your sects. The republicans just like christianity and catholicism are all doomed....
Imagine that there is no heave, no hell below us, above us only sky, imagine all the people living for today!

I believe the word 'indivisible' has to do with standing together as a nation, not dividing into separate countries. In any case, freedom of division, as you call it is an oxymoron....we are free to not divide as well. Why is it so disturbing to include 'under God' when in fact, that is who we are...all of us, like it or not.

I don't know why we don't just eliminate "indivisible" - that is weak. We should be able to divide into as many countries as we want. Freedom of division!

I don't find it offensive. I learned the original version of the pledge (without the words "Under God") in elementary school. I still often find myself saying "...one nation, indivisible", then having to pause as everyone else catches up.

It is amazing to me how many people erroneously think that "Under God" was in the Pledge from the beginning. That was instituted in the 1950's, according to Congress, to differentiate ourselves from those "Godless" Communists.
