I do think Paul is under appreciated because he wasn't even considered for the People Choice Awards!!!! I mean I love Ian too BUT Paul is my favorite character on Vampire Diaries. How does one get picked and not the other for best man in a drama series????? Paul deserves to be nominated as well!!!!!
I loooooooooooooooooooove the vampire diaries BUT i really believe that paul wesley is appreciated! JESSE DESERVES to be recognized for his amazing work on FNL, he is a truly great actor, and i'm sorry to say but paul isn't. Like he cried on a previous episode and it was not believable at all.. in fact i laughed... JESSE FTW!!

I've always thought that Ian was over-rated. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great actor but I've always thought that he got more attention than he actually deserved/deserves. It especially goes for his character Damon on The Vampire Diaries. Ian/Damon get more attention because Damon is the "bad boy" character who gets all of the "good" lines, the comical one-liners and he tends to get better overall scenes on the show. This greatly upsets me I find this unfair and a total character assassination on the part of Stefan Salvatore, not only the character but Paul, himself, the actor. Ian may "steal" the show as so many people have said but to me, Paul always stands out because he's that bright distant start shining in the background and you can't help but notice him. I don't watch the show for just Ian by any means and if it was all about Damon Salvatore, I wouldn't watch the show to begin with. I'm actually Bi-Bro when it comes to the Salvatore brothers or "Bi-Salvatore"; I like both brothers but for completely different reasons. However, I do slightly lean more towards Stefan, just because he is similar or more the kind of guy that I would date in real life (I don't normally go for the bad boys although I am kind of drawn to them). What many people don't know about Paul is that even though he is one of those subtle, "shy" sweethearts, he also has a bit of a rebel in him, a bad boy within him. If you read about his bio, you will understand what I am talking about. Ian is actually the opposite IRL, he is not the bad boy at all and never was in the past. I've always found Ian to be somewhat "serious" from what I've seen of him in interviews but he does possess a dry sense of humour. So IMO, Ian is somewhat the opposite of his character (the guy is very humanitarian), whereas, I feel like Paul possesses both the "good guy" image and a bit of the "bad boy/rebel" image" and I can't help but find that mixture irresistible. Because that is what almost every girl is looking for. And that is what I feel his character Stefan is as well. Stefan may be the "good guy" with good intentions but he can be badass whenever he wants to be. I've seen that side of him come out throughout the course of the show and let me just say that Paul brings out his best when he is being the bad boy. As a matter of fact, I find that Paul suits the bad boy role much more then the good guy role, he has that look that is slightly edgy. Anyways, I hate how absolutely everyone seems to be Team Damon only because he's the "hot" one. Well, I think Stefan/Paul is really hot too -- and an amazing actor. I'm tired of The Vampire Diaries becoming the Damon Show. If the writers are going to continue to make the show all about Damon by giving him "intense" scenes with Elena/Nina, giving him all of the funny one-liners etc, then what is the point of watching??? I watch the show for all of the other characters as well and IMO, Ian is way over-rated and it bothers me. Everyone else (esp. Paul, who is the LEAD male actor on The Vampire Diaries) gets overlooked on the show and I'm tired of it. It is time for other actors/actresses to gain some attention and recognition for the work as well because I think all of the cast are absolutely amazing artists. Also, if I'm being honest, I find that Ian "over-does" his acting expressions, I find them OTT and they really bug me. For example, he does the eyebrow thing and the eye thing way to much and it sometimes takes me out of the moment of a scene. Paul, on the other hand, is more subtle with his expressions and he is also able to cultivate much more facial expressions, moods (including sadness) then Ian. So, I say, GO PAUL and TEAM STEFAN. Ian is not the only actor on the show and as a viewer of this show, this is clearly a true statement after watching Paul's brilliant performances week after week.
Paul Wesley is without question very much, UNAPPRECIATED!! Since day one of this series the writers obviously favour Ian Somerhalders character. Ians character gets, all the action scenes, most scenes in general, best lines, when they have a scene or litally two of Pauls character saving someone, the writers have Ians character actually save the day while Paul is just standing there. They give Paul this so called epic love story, but yet have Ian trying to get that part of the show too. We watch the show only for PAUL WESLEY! To Kevin and Julie, we all know that Pacey was your favourite on Dawsons creek and now you've replaced Pacey with Ian. Wake up you both really are obviously favoring Ians character and the show will end up suffering because people will grow tired of it.
Ian might be a nice e Paul is beautiful and the Vampire Diaries, not looking at Damon and Elena but Stefan and Elena, and Ian will attract only by playing good cop bad and Stefan otherwise handsome two

I don't think that Paul is soo under appreciated...but unfortunately he is. He's NOT only by his fans, who loves him deeply and admire him not only on TDV, but on his earlier works. And they(so am I) love him not only because he has fascinating abs and whole Appolon body, and not only because of his patrician cheekbones and the whole noble look, and not just because of his deep, clever, mindbending eyes, captivating voice, charisma, keen sense of humour etc. We love him for the way he's talking with jounalists, how patient and open he is to his fans, how caring he's to Nina, Torrey, his mom, sisters.
But the top of this iceberg is his talent. And it is mostly under appriciated. When I'm reading, that Stefan has only one facial expression, or when Ian's(Damon) fans write everywhere that Paul's cry and pain in S2E6 was disgusting, I'm truly shocked how blined people are by Ian's mops and face, so they don't see great acting of Paul.
I like TDV writers Kevin and July, but partly it's their fault. They've not given Paul many chances to show his all potential at the first season, and they taught fans to realise that Ian(Damon) is theirs favourite, and they've given all interesting stuff to play to Ian. And Stefan was stucked over Elena and Damon.
I like Stelena, and their scenes. But their scenes are releasing only one plane of Paul's tallent. The others should be explored by connecting Srefan to other characters(not only to Elena and Damon), and connecting him in interesting way, or given him more very deeply emotional scenes, as in S1E18-20. I've seen great connection with Caroline and Katherine in S2. So I hope writers will not write all interesting stuff only for Ian and focus on Stefan's character which is so many-sided. But unfortunately, Stafan and Paul accordingly won't be properly appreciated, when there is bad boy Ian(Damon) nereby, who is really over appriciated just because of he's bad boy with pretty face and jockes, which were written to him by Kevin Williamson.
Only small percentage of people, who watch TDV appreciate intelligent Paul's acting, acting with his eyes and not using all his face to show emotions. And it's a pity.
But I'm proud that still tere is a lot of Paul's lovers and that they find him so fascinating actor and handsome man, as I am.

The characters are so different in TVD, so I could not say that 'Stefan' stands in the shadow of his brother..
however .. Germany is also still in the continuation of the first episodes ..:-)))

I vote for paul..he is so under appreciated because he is always under Ian's shadow..really I find paul to be more attractive than Ian. Ian wouldn't be nothing without that "eye" thing he does to his fans that drives them nuts( don't get me wrong i like Ian to) but paul is something special to me he has this mysterious bad boy look but inside he is romatic, passionate, protective, loyal, and commited to elena. writer's PLEASE i beg of you to not let damon in elena be together she belongs to stefan!...sorry everyone for ranting it makes me mad that he's under rated

Thank you, EW, for appreciating Paul Wesley, who does not get the attention/recognition/appreciation he deserves. I agree, Ian is great but a lot of his popularity stems from the fangirls. Paul is such a wonderful actor and portrays Stefan in an amazing way. The Vampire Diaries definitely would not be the same without him! He so needs more love/respect. He is AWESOME :)

I think Paul is under appreciated, yes. For most people, the show is all about Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. Not that they're not awesome artists; they are. But Paul is equally important for the show; his portrayal of Stefan Salvatore is amazing and deserves recognition! He's a terrific actor and a very handsome man.
