Six Months Later: How well does "Across the Sea" work within the context of Season 6?
It works perfectly as-is: a standalone Jacob/MIB centric episode culminating in the Adam/Eve reveal
It would have worked better with some 2007 Island context, like Jacob choosing his successor in WTDF
It would have worked better as a series of Jacob/MIB-centric flashbacks during the Series Finale
It would have worked better as a 4-6 episode Time Flash (caused by Jughead) at the start of Season 6
It would have worked better with an Others-centric (or Illana-centric) "prequel" earlier in Season 6
It would have worked better with a surprising reveal about "The Mother" in the Flashsideways
Who cares? "It only ends once."
