To the 63% that said no,
I hope you never have to use this INSURANCE.

I am 53 yrs old and lost my job after a lifetime (34 years) of working without ever collecting UI. I have contacted over 400 places and have not been able to find a job. I am not LAZY and want to work. Pass the extensions!

I know why there are NO's instead of Yes's which I added Yes, by the way, for I'm one of those unemployed that didn't want to be unemployed and feel I still have a great work ethic to work every day of my life, if given a chance. For it made me feel good at the end of day working for not only my family, but for Country. People say they have lost their dignity, it is only because they let the American people, who don't understand, and Government that has the inability to work with us, to let them lose their dignity. Don't let them win, people.

I know its hard and like one of them above Jan, in January I will be out on the street, only could kick my butt for not getting a RV and becoming a Nomad, at least I'd have a roof over my head. Maybe the United States Government should buy each and every person unemployed a RV, they start out cheap. Maybe someone should suggest that to Congress and this President at least they wouldn't be freezing to death like I will be in the frozen tundra. Infact do it and see what they say ASAP.

For all those who think there are jobs, this is what several employment agencies said to me recently:

"Employers are not sending us in anything for unemployed, to have to even put in a call to them, and they are coming in with tears in their eyes and despaired when walking out the door."

I've seen suicides on TV, where a 51 year old man jumped off the Hoan Bridge to our Sentry where a husband was stealing off the shelves for food for his family in the car and getting arrested in front of his kids crying for they were hungry to his wife trying to apologize, they were living out of their car. And now soup lines forming around the United States.

So if this isn't a Depression, what is?

I vote yes to extend unemployment benefits and also pass a tier 5 for all the 99er's which includes my husband. He has exhausted his benefits two months ago and we are barely getting by! No we do not have any credit cards, just basic bills (rent, electric, phone, garbage etc). By mid January we will be out in the street since my job is cutting the hours from 40 to 20 hours per week. We have sold what little bit we have just to make it this far, there is nothing else to sell. I agree majority of people that could be voting here can't since they can't afford to pay for internet, now a days without internet that cuts the job hunting down by half since majority of the VERY FEW jobs out there post them online!

Yes, Why ?? Well the government will pay either way
    1) in the form of Ui or
    2) in the form of DSS since in NY the average UI check is 308 / wk which is 5 dollars more than the cut off for DSS funds

The average person on DSS cost the tax payer 2,000 per month
Now going by the max UI paxment per month in NY 405 * 4 = 1620

2000 DSS - 1620 UI leaves a difference of 380.00 more per month 380.00 * 15 million = 5,700,000,000 more per month with a person on DSS don't you just love those idiots in Washington

The only reason why there aren't more "YES" votes is because all those unemployed people cannot afford internet, thus their voice is not being registered. Let's see ... give 12 billion back to those who paid it over the many years they've worked and immediately stimulate the economy or give 700 billion to those who are already rich and for which there is no means to pay for it and would only stash it away... decisions ... decisions. I bet every one of the people voting on this site would not be impacted if the tax cuts only extended up to those who claim $250K or more on their taxes. (Rememer folks ... it's not total income ... it's taxable income!).

What a corrupt poll! The party of NO and the party of NO poll

Capitalism and socialism CAN co-exist comfortably, just as it has been doing in the USA for many decades. The Keynesian form of government (half capitalism and half socialism) is a better method for the majority of the people. Friedman's corporatism only favors the rich who think they are much more important than anyone else. We need to get the corporatists out of our government! Reinstate Glass-Steagall in FULL. It protected us for a long time and we were much more profitable, as a country, when it was in effect.

"The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism", by Naomi Klein. Excellent book!

There are more than 4 million people - 99ers - who have exhausted all benefits, many as long as 9-10 months ago. Simply extending the program will not help the 99ers.
There is only 1 bill - S3706 The Americans Want to Work Act that would provide additional assistance for the 99ers.

Not surprised Fox is nothing more than a right wing propoganda outlet they make me sick along with millions and millions of other well informed Americans.

I used to be one of those people, EMPLOYED, who criticized the unemployed. Well, I too, have been laid off since January 2010. I know the plight of what it is to be in the situation now. I have lost my house, health insurance, savings and just about my dignity.

All I can say is I was WRONG to judge the unemployed and my conservative friends - - you are wrong too. What you are talking about when you slam the unemployed is:

    1. Homelessness / Obamavilles (crime / jails that we will pay for)
    2. Children going to Foster homes and becoming jacked up for life (we will pay for this)
    3. Droves hitting welfare, medicare, CHIPs, food stamp programs (we will pay for)
    4. More difficulties getting out of poverty (we will pay for years)
    5. More foreclosures - - property devaluing for all in a neighborhood

Society will end up paying more in the long run with other programs, suicides, crime, etc. per person/family than just paying a meager $200 to $300 a week in unemployment during 9.6% unemployment.

I'm not surprised at the results. Americans that are working, most don't get it and the politicians and news media are only demonizing the unemployed. Let them live a few months with no income and I think they would change their point of view. There aren't jobs out there for everyone. We're looking. I just don't know when this country got so cold hearted. And yes, they could have at least extended them to the end of the year. Political games at the expense of hardworking unemployed taxpaying Americans that lost their jobs at no fault of their own. But these same percent that vote against extensions are about to stroke out about their tax cuts. They don't want to loose a penny. These are hard times. There is class warfar but it's against the poor.

This is the latest and perhaps greatest Obama blunder that will never be heard through mainstream media. The fact of the matter is that thousands of small business owners, not to mention larger businesses, are out there ready and wanting to hire but are not doing so largely for two reasons. First is the uncertainty of the expense imposed by Obamacare and how their fear is that it will devastate the payroll (which in some cases lead to more layoffs i.e. McDonald's and Wal-Mart, amongst over a thousand companies who want to opt out). Secondly, the Bush tax cuts, if Obama would simply announce he will at least temporarily, for two years, keep these cuts in order a lot of uncertainty would be reduced. Maybe a small business owner would hire 3 rather than 6, but that is three more taxpayers supporting those who are unemployed. What self respecting employer is going to hire a person if they question whether they can afford to keep that employee.

There are no simple solutions. Just as many people are now being forced to make some very difficult decisions in their lives now, so too will Mr. Obama as he is going to have to swallow some of that ego and be forced to recognize that he does not have all the answers.

    These people need jobs now! 1. End the Fed; 2. Bring troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan; 3.Place troops on our southern border with Mexico to shut border down and end illegal immigration and smuggling through southern border; 4. Remove property taxes and income taxes;
Comment: By ending the fed and elimination of property and income taxes you will jumpstart the economy. If congress needs money let them print it, the US Constitution gives Congress that right (see The Secret of Oz video at Youtube). This will jumpstart the economy, producing badly needed jobs!

I'm 61 years old and have been unemployed for over a year now. Sure there are jobs out there, most at minimum wage or just part time. Look at it from an Employer's view now. Would you hire someone who is younger and has the promise of several years of working for your company, or someone who is about ready for Social Security?

Damn Politicians don't have to worry about it, the Taxpayers will be paying their pensions.
