How do you explain Boone's appearance to John Locke in "Further Instructions"?
It was Boone's ghost (a whisper). Boone needed to help Locke "find his way" on The Island before he could "move on".
It was Smokey/MIB. All part of his "master plan" of manipulating Locke and killing Jacob; Mr. Eko was just a pawn.
It was a message from Jacob. Jacob needed Locke to save Mr. Eko because Mr.. Eko was "special" (a potential Candidate?)
It was an after effect of the hatch explosion. Locke was exposed to electromangetism (The Light) and could see hidden messages from The Island.
It was just a drug-induced hallucination.
