Would Madison support the idea that America is a "democratic republic"? (Poll Closed)

    Later, when pressed on this issue, Madison agreed that the difference between a democracy and a republic were not nearly as great as he had made it seem in the Federalist Papers. He was taking an extreme position to make his point. I think he would clearly agree that the constitution struck a balance between an open democracy - which can often devolve into a free-for-all - and a true republic. Democratic Republic seems to be closer to what Madison really thought about all of this.
