The rule of law supposedly prevents societies from heading too far in either direction but unfortunately, it looks like we're heading in both directions simultaneously. Corrupt cops, vindictive prosecutors, chip-on-shoulder druggies, poodle-judges, profit-driven lawyers etc. etc. Restoring public admiration for integrity would go far to put a stop to these trends.
