African tribal masks in the home?

I’m debating on whether to buy a few African masks from an auction house now. I’m a little leary about it, wanted to look into the possibility of spiritual attachment to the masks before buying. I’ve had a bumpy road the past 10 years anyway and am trying to smooth things out. I don’t want to invite anything into my new home that I’ll be moving into sometime this year after inheriting it from my father recently. The masks are so unique and great conversation pieces, would look beautiful hanging on my walls. Idk what to do? I’m sure they weren’t used ceremonially since made in the past few years, right??

I bought two long black wood mask almost 15 years ago. Someone recently told me to look into those masks, because of spiritual battles that I've been going through for at least 15 years. I can upload pictures of the masks and maybe someone with experience can help me with the history behind these wooded mask.

I visited a friend who has these masks facing each other on each wall. I no nothing about the culture never been to Africa. They were intimidating in apperance...but I immediately felt heat and began feeling physically I'll. The room was very quite.. too quite I felt I had to get out of there. The smile on my friends face became minyacle. I'm not sure what that was about I'm not sure why I had the experience. I just want to say this was very real. Just happened last night. Upon leaving I visited another friend and ended up leaving because they said I had a look on my face and was giving them dirty looks, I'm still in a fog about the whole thing. I don't want to affend anyone and don't know why this happened. That's my comment. I hope not to affend anyone with my post. I simply needed to get this off my chest.

My boyfriend is African American. This is his culture. The African culture, to me, is very interesting. It is so beautiful from the clothing to their rituals that they do to stay connected to their ancestors. I believe that there is a place in he home for African art. Now it comes to the question do they have the ability to work or bring spirits? From what I was told by my boyfriends god-mother who studied African culture, she said it only works if you believe it does. I personally want to embrace as much of this culture that is so beautiful and is now so connected to me.
