Wow I like Ricky, but that was just Weak. Those jokes weren't even funny, they were offensive! Not in the derogatory sense but in the uncalled for and unpleasant sort of way. Granted he was telling the truth about most situations, but some topics he brought up are Fau Paux in a setting such as The Golden Globes on broadcast television There's a time and a place for comments like those, not in front of the people your deliberately slandering. If I were Steve Carrell I would have punched him in his little ass mouth. His comedy is funny but that was just rude and tasteless, also that whole thanking God for making him an Atheist! That was the straw that broke the camels back, I was like wow! And the press isn't really saying how bad a job he did hosting. They are saying things like he brought “the sort of funny rudeness and effrontery… that make an awards show such as the Golden Globes engaging to watch.” Which is totally outrageous and I'm not a big awards show fan but the actors get exited for It and I like to know who one and watch Hollywood have one of those expensive elegant Starlit nights. He was a poor host last year and was hanging walking on the edge with his comedy, so I was surprised that he was asked to host again this year. If that were a black Comedian that said those things, like Chris Rock at the Oscars then, he would have made the front page of the New York Times. They would probably be making him write an apology letter to "Mrs. Angelina Jolie! How Dare he disrespect our stars!" lol this is what the press would say if it were Steve Harvey or someone. All I have to say about this is Who is Ricky Gervais Really? I mean how did the stars give him enough respect to let him sit up there and talk to them like that. I give him a (-10) rating on (0 to 10 scale). Poor show old mate you'll have to redeem yourself somehow.

If they can't take a joke then don't hire the guy... Hire Jerry Seinfeld if you want a safe boring show and don't care about your ratings... They knew what they were getting into, don't blame Ricky...

if you play make believe for a living and make your living in the public eye you should have a sense of humor about yourself!! If you can't take the heat...find another profession

Next thing you know, he is going to be making some inflammatory movie implying that all religions are lies - wait, what... he already did... and it was thought provoking and hilarious... good on him!

Doesn't anyone remember Don Rickles? (Or is anyone old enough to remember Don Rickles?)
Ricky is just this generation's Don. And Don is still entertaining in his twilight years.
Sondra's right, Ricky was just saying what alot of viewers at home were probably saying.
Plus, it's GG's fault for giving Ricky free reign, if they did their research they would have known what they were getting themselves into.

He made these awards so entertaining - a bit of controversy'll do Hollywood some good. Back to boring & dull for next year's Globes then (boo!).

Another excellent hosting from Ricky! To be fair most of the actors and actresses took his jibes all in good humour, it's just the press that are making this into a big deal.

Love it. Why do American actors in particular take themselves so seriously?

There used to be a time when live TV was anything but safe and boring. Ricky Gervais bravely brought some very funny, edgy comedy back into our lives.

@Rosita - Please shut your pie hole...

  • WTF - 13 years ago

@Anne. This is not school you jackass! It's a bunch of over-flown, self indulgent rich people who daily put themselves out there for comment and critique. “Bullying”!!? Please…get off your high-horse.

    ricky for 2012 host!

Anybody can be funny, but to be witty and clever takes intelligence. Ricky was spot on and said what viewers at home are really thinking. Leave it to Hollywood for being so sensitive. I can't wait to see Ricky perform again!

@Rosita. Have you ever watched his stand-up comedy? I'm guessing not. It's hilarious, but you probably wouldn't like it.

  • Rosita - 13 years ago

    So much for National civility!
    Ricky introduced us to his
    tasteless, classless side.
    Shame on him!

Anne: But this isn't a school setting, is it? These are (supposedly) grown-up people who live and work in a very competitive world.

  • Anne - 13 years ago

In a school setting would this be funny or bullying?

  • Doug - 13 years ago

It's not like they are Obama or something.
