Kay you are a dip shit, the gun is to protect the kids from crazy ass people with guns trying to come to the school and shoot them. This did not say that teachers must obtain the license only that they were allowed to, it is a great idea, lets say a crazy person with a gun comes in campus to shoot your child wouldnt you like them to be protected?

    Kay,
Yea, I wish it was still like that where kids had the fear of going to the principal's office because of the paddle. Pretty sad when being a teacher is considered a high-risk job.

When we were in school, just the thought of the school principal & his large wooden paddle was enough to encourage us to behave ourselves.

I would like to take a minute to clear up a couple of misconceptions:

People need to realize that a NO GUNS ALLOWED sign in the window of a school or on it's propert is NOT going to magically put up a force field to keep kids from committing crimes with guns; nor has it ever stopped bank robbers from robbing a bank. Simply because criminals don't obey the law, hence the name CRIMINALS. The ONLY thing the sign does is keeping teachers and administrators DISARMED and DEFENSELESS.
Just like the recent shooting on 01/07/11 in Omaha, NE. Vice principal died, principal almost died, the unarmed security guard is thankful that the kid missed him... What if the shooter decided to go around shooting kids?? Who are the kids going to run to for help? Teacher.. What can the teachers do being defenseless other than trying to calm and talk the shooter down or use themselves as human shields??

I sure would rather have my kid on a school with armed teachers capable to protect my child rather than in a school with just signs that clearly puts everyone in danger because nobody can do anything about it.

You hear all sorts of excuses: "I don't want some crazy teacher waving around his gun in front of my child." These are fears from stereotypical rhetorics that if people would take a few minutes to listen and learn about something before they say NO, things wouldn't be as scary.

When was the last time has anyone heard of a teacher shooting kids in a school?
    That's right we haven't!

As a Texas CHL (Concealed Handgun License) holder I can tell you, that in TX one MUST go through a 10 hour course, that includes shooting proficiency testing, written testing on the Texas Penal Code, learning how to approach various scenarios BEFORE you draw your firearm and making sure that one is aware of his/her surroundings so that innocent people are not injured. All the above, fingerprints, applications and forms of ID then get submitted to the FBI for an extensive FBI background check, (much more that the simple FBI NICS check) before they consider giving you a license to carry concealed. People with DWI, Felonies, Psychological issues, defaulting on student loans, not paying taxes etc. will be denied.

As hard as it is to get a TX CHL it's very easy to have it revoked or suspended.

Now going back to the "waving around a gun"...

Every TX CHL holder knows the laws. According to the Texas Penal Code Chapter 9 ยง42.01

"A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly: (a)(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm"

You will not only be arrested but have your CHL revoked and most likely fired etc. etc.

Basically one can't brandish their weapon unless he/she is in fear of her/his life, or the safety of others. The weapon MUST BE ALWAYS CONCEALED otherwise.

I hope I was able to help some.

I would have voted yes. However my wife is a teacher and I wouldn't want her in the position of having to carry a gun on campus. My wife is not that kind of person to carry a gun let alone operate and fire one.

I would rather maybe the principals to carry a weapon. For example a highschool may have 4 principals and if something happens at least you have 4 principals that can spring into action rather than a teacher.

I would have voted yes, but I fear that the gun may not be fully under the control of the teacher and the possibility that a child could gain access to the gun would be unacceptable. Guns in the classroom is not the answer. It would be better to have licenced carriers within the admin section, ie, principal, asst. principal, etc.
