City property taxes are outrageously high. I'll even exclude for the moment the argument that city residents get so little for what they pay. There are many wonderful sections of Baltimore, which certainly could draw in new residents. As a former resident, I am amazed every time I return at the development that encircles the Harbor, drawing neighborhoods like Locust Point and Canton into Baltimore"s Inner Harbor miracle. However, any prospective resident must take into account property taxes, and when a $500k property is assessed with taxes of $12k per year..who wouldn't go to the suburbs?
