The nutritional science the Guidlines are based on is often very shaky. The extreme focus on single macronutrients tends to make us ignore the complex interactions the thousands of micronutrients in our food make in our body. Claiming that salt (or fat or cholesterol or carbs or... you get the picture) is bad is dangerous oversimplification. Long story short: avoid the processed food with long ingredient lists, cook for yourself and eat lots of fresh vegetables, and you should be fine.

It may be a shocking idea to a lot of folks that salt isn't actually bad for everyone.

In fact, I challenge anyone to show me evidence that salt has ANY health problems for women with hypotension (Low blood pressure.) (i.e. me) In Europe they actually recommend salt for this group.

I love salt. I cook all my own food and I add a lot and I have no intention to stop.

As for processed food? Don't like what's in it? Cook your own. Geeze.

I can manage my salt intake, it's the food manufacturers that need to be called on the carpet. Even basic ingredients have been tainted with salt, and prepared foods, i.e. canned soups, are OUT OF CONTROL!!!!
