I'd never heard Christina sing before, so I had no opinion going in. Messing up the line was the least of her problems. She ruined what is already not a great song. Listening to Lea Michele was pure enjoyment. And the choir was a good addition.

These people who hate Christina need to check out their motives. I hear a lot of jealousy. Sure she flubbed some words but she sang great. She was born wih an incredible gift. I enjoy her voice everytime I hear it. You call it warbelling, I call it making a song her own.

Enough of the vocal calisthenics. Not only is it distracting, but it also a disgrace to the anthem. CA sounded like a feral cat in heat! It should be against the law to sing our national anthem in any manner other than the way it was written. The Star Spangled Banner is perfect the way it was composed and should be performed with reverence. Woe to all who try add "their own touch" to such a meaning full piece of music.

That was by far the most awful rendition of our National Anthem that I have ever heard....She messed it up because she tried to jazz it up too much & lost her place.....Not Cool Christina!!!

I didn't know HOW you sing the National Anthem reflects how much homage you're paying to America. Please... The National Anthem is ALL about showcasing your talent. That's part of the business for musicians to make their mark and create a memorable anthem. Regardless of how it's sung, it's about the emotion and the meaning of the words. As far as Lea, I guess some people are forgetting her background. She's from Broadway, where she is used to being overly dramatic and loud. While I did think she overperformed JUST a bit, I think she sang beautifully. Christina wasn't horrible, but for a "five time Grammy award winner," she could have done better. I thought she was screaming into the mic more than Lea! To give them both credit, I imagine it's pretty intimidating standing up in front of that many people singing such an important song.

Did she mess up the lines? There is no doubt that she did, but it's not the end of the world. It must be very nerve racking to perform at the Super Bowl in front of 1,000's upon 1,000's of people, and the millions watching at home. I am sure 80% of the people who attended the game or watched at home could not even recite all the lyrics to the song in the first place. Sing on Christina this too shall pass. Don't worry the world will soon find something else critical to our existence as American's to criticize...maybe Snooki will get new hair style.

CA was horrid! She is a disgrace. How can "sounding like a tom cat fighting in the back yard" and forgetting the words, be a little mistake? No, she tried to "do it hip-hop, or her way" and it sucked... big time!

I think everyone who is hating on Christina needs to give it a rest...so she screwed up on little part of it...even tho she has been in the business for a long time she is allowed to make mistakes like everyone...yes she has played in front of thousands of people befor but it was the Superbowl...i think people should give her a break...i'd like to see all the haters get out there and sing it in front of thousands plus the whole world and see if they do any better and not be nervious...i think both ladies were great

I voted for Lea because she didn't sound like a squawking chicken. I feel she gave America The Beautiful respect. Christina was totally out of it. She sounded like a squawking, screeching owl of some kind. I also don't feel she hit the notes, just screeching, I'm sorry to say.

The National Anthem should be about the song, not who is singing it or how it's sung. And I agree please sing it so I can sing along.

I thought having CA sing the National Anthem was going to be a keeper. Lea Michele singing first, also a keeper. Well what a disappointment. Lea was awesome, classy(no matter what she does outside). But CA...OMG. How can u flub the words to Our National Anthem. Didn't she feel the need to practice and maybe if her nerves are going to get her, to have a teleprompter. Very disappointed in CA...Lea on the other hand did awesome. Please do be hating on me.

Agree with Ron. Sing the song as it's written. Know the words, especially to the National Anthem. And, hey, how about singing in such a way so that those in the stands can sing too? At what point in time did singing the National Anthem at an event become all about the performer? I always thought, at least I used to, that they were there to lead the crowd.

so are you also attracted to shiny things? is that why you thought Christina was better...What a superficial comment to make....another case in poing about the uslessness of critics, TV commentators, news reporters.....get a real job.....

    xtina is a legend

Christina may have an awesome voice, but sing the song as it's written, without all those stupid runs!! And remember the freakin' words!!!! It's the National Anthem! Nobody should forget the words to that song! If you sing it straight, without all the embellishments, maybe you'd be able to concentrate on the words.

  • Richard - 13 years ago

No way was CA better than Lea Michele. Anyone who says so is an absolute moron. CA ruined the National Anthem. Not just by flubbing up the words, but the way she sang it. Her rendition was horrible. The song was not meant to be all jazzed up the way she did it. I like CA and think she is very talented but she didn't do justice tonight. Lea's version of America was very nice and the choir was a great touch.

  • Jack - 13 years ago

CA showed just how well she sings live and for someone who says she's been singing the National Anthem since she was seven years old she certainly didn't preform the song like she knew it or do it justice. I absolutely love it when these Divas and Prima Donnas fall flat on their smug grossly over paid faces. She will always have the footnote to her career as having flubbed the Super Bowl National Anthem in front of, oh lets say 100 million viewers. Way to go girl......

There is NEVER an excuse for messing up the words to the National Anthem-it's not like she's a "wet behind the ears" performer. Shame on you Christina-you're a disgrace-and your voice isn't much better either.

  • Cece - 13 years ago

I'm sorry but being a 5-time grammy winner does not give her the right to flub the lines. Cactus Cuties could have done it better! And as far as Lea Michele, well...I would have liked to have heard "America the Beautiful" sung and not screamed into the mic. Call me old-fashioned (I am) or fuddy-duddy (I'm a traditionalist) but this is not the time to showcase your supposed talent but to pay homage to our great country.

  • scott - 13 years ago

Oh come on. I am so over people live Christine who have great voices over signing and taking a song that is faabulous and ruining it with runs and warbles. She needs to get herself back together like she was prior to her baby...including the body and face and getting the getto tattoo taken off....she is so over...........and tired. Go LEA!

  • Jake - 13 years ago

Christina's accidental mis-wording of the anthem should not alleviate any deserved credit for her powerful voice. Although she may feel very embarrassed, Christina, you did a great job. This is a lesson for all, no matter how famous or excellent we are at our craft, we all make mistakes. The 'Beautiful' singer should take 2011 off and focus on her personal issues. However, 2012 will be the year of Christina.
