I agree with the comment made by Joshua 3 weeks ago. Jake Rojas is the bomb. He has created a restaurant that bests any other for the creativeness of his cuisine (although Newport has lots of excellent dining choices). His restaurant is in Newport and I live in Newport - lucky me. But who goes to little ole Newport, where half the population is in Florida, in the winter time?

Chef Jamie Bissonnette is a seasoned and very talented chef. We are followers of his culinary surprises, he never ceases to amaze us with something "new" everytime we visit Coppa. Go Jamie!!! You are the best!

I live in Litchfield County, CT and part-time in NYC, and although I love trying the great restaurants of New York, I can honestly say I consider Community Table (Chef Joel Viehland) to be the best in the NYC metro area right now - and I know I'm far from alone in thinking that. Joel's food is so good I drive a half hour from my house in CT (usually more than once a week) to experience truly phenomenal cusine - and with all local meat, fish and produce. It astounds us that he can create such elegant cusine with the small amount of available fresh local ingrediants in the depths of winter. But he does time after time.

Chris Coombs has prepared the best food I have ever eaten. He's a culinary genius and deserves to be recognized as one.

I live part time in Boston, and in Washington Depot, CT and my vote is with Joel Viehland of Community Table. We have so many fantastic restaurants in Boston with many talented chefs, but I have never experienced gastro-euphoria until the first time (and every time thereafter) I dined at Community Table. I have eaten at all of the restaurants that the nominated Boston chefs represent, and I can fairly say that Joel is truly genius and in a class of his own. I agree with poster, Joshua and others in that this award should be more fairly categorized.
Joel, good luck- but part of me wants to keep you a secret.

Chris Coombs has a remarkable way with food; often something spicy, sweet, crunchy, silky all in the same bite. We've traveled a lot and tried many restaurants but find ourselves comparing to our great experiences at both DBar and Deuxave - many never come close - Go, Chris!

Doesn't a public poll take away from how special it was to be given this award? Isn't it just a popularity contest now? Why am I asking...it's not special anymore and it is a big, fat, boring popularity contest...too bad for the great chefs that are edged out by those in bigger cities with more voters!!! No doubt the chefs in the lead are talented, but this award is just not special anymore...

Voted but think system is unfair. Chefs in high populated areas are competing with chefs in seasonal areas. Food and Wine should make a correction based on location restaurant

DBar, great food!

Chris is a great cook, very arrogant; Jamie Bissonette is a very talent Chef, there is a difference.
I am thoroughly impressed with each and every aspect of my dining experience at DEUXAVE and DBar. Chris Coombs is a culinary genious! I love him and his food! This comment should say a LOT because I am someone that dines out for a living. Hope this helps him win!

I have eaten at D Bar where Mr Coombs has been cooking and creating food that is just wonderful. I have had very good eating experiences many times. He is indeed nice but, the cooking is very special. He is quite deserving of a win.
Maine is proud of Geoff! Also our other Food and Wine Bests -- Rob Evans of Hugo's and Steve Corry of 555.

i don't know who this character is pretending to be me but please stop impersonating me on this site. there is but one db and he reigns supreme. i don't care who wins this competition, my position remains neutral. i am happily employed at the deuxave and take pride in what i do.

I work there and I don't think that he should win. You're the ignorant idiot for pretending to know other peoples' business.
John Buckey - 14 years ago
I don't understand why people need to be ignorant and post mean spirited base comments but poster "David Bruno" reminds us of this pathetic unfortunate reality. Maybe we could celebrate all of the spotlighted Chefs and accept that one will win the competition. That can happen without tearing down and maligning the others. And, I have been to Duexave. Based on my visit Coombs is as much a contender as anyone.

A chef posing with a slaughtered animal over his shoulder? You can't be serious. This guy is so yesterday's news.
I recommend the creations of Chef Gerard Barbin. He is a person who dominates the culinary art with a remarkable talent.
