So to answer your question "Does Lowrie deserve a shot to start", of course he does, but I answered it as a NO b/c Francona will start Scutaro and force Lowrie to perform to a very high degree and force Francona's hand. Now if you had worded the question "Does Lowrie deserve a shot at competing for shortstop throughout the season?", then I think you'll get a much better idea as to which fans believe or don't believe in Francona's philosophy.
