Which armour ability is your favourite?

Not sure whether anybody is actually gonna read a comment on a 2 month old poll but I just wanted to point out that the discrepency between armourlock as the 2nd most liked ability to the 3rd most liked is a whopping 8% meaning that while there are a lot of users it is really underpresented in the comments. Hence my last stand for the so called noob ability.
First of all everyone carefully explaining how they are so much better than "dem armourlockin' noobs" - let your grenades do the talking. If anyone using armourlock on you is as good as dead than it can't be so imbalanced now, can it?
Secondly Reach is a game. If you have to dislike armourlock so much than remember - hate the game, not the players. Or - if you have to - take it up with Bungie's balancing team. In my opinion it is absolutely legitimate to use every advantage you can get and I believe you wouldn't be on this site if you'd take a much different approach to gaming. After all, we are here to discuss the easiest and fastest ways to do the challenges often resulting in the use of mistakes made by bungie or bug using - and that's okay. Why isn't it when using armourlock? It's not like armourlock allowed you to one-shot people or sell bits of your soul to satan so can give the other player's cancer (or is it? o.O).

Besides those things in general I wanted to point out a use for armourlock that is very dear to me: Sword base's "elevator". It is completely unpassable without having an armour-locking "scout" in your team to check for a whole team of camper's. These are the guys I truly hate but I don't point fingers screaming "camping n00b motherf0ck0rs" because they, too, are just using what our lord Bungie gave them.

Lastly: I can't believe that 23% of this blog's community consists of noobs. Love you guys.

    @Keaton
being good with armor lock just makes you a bigger noob. It's like saying you could be mlg in COD for using grenade launchers all the time. The best way to fix armor lock would be to make it so that you couldn't be faceing any direction when come out of armor lock, and that your health doesn't regenerate while in armor lock. I only use it in campaign or firefight, or on multiplayer maps with lots of vehicles.

I think this poll should specify what game mode we're talking about--different abilities are used differently in different modes. Armor Lock is mostly a cheap noob ability (though there is ONE pro use for it, as mentioned above) in multiplayer, but few can deny its uses in campaign and firefight. Likewise, Jetpack is useful in multiplayer and firefight, but it's rare in campaign and its use is VERY situational.
On a side note, we should have an Energy Sword vs. Gravity Hammer poll at some point...

I don't know what my favorite is but i like sprint, bubble shield, and active camo a lot. I use every power often but those are the 3 i use the most if they are up for the choosing. And yes Armor lock is a total noob ability.

  • rippy - 13 years ago

If you armor lock on me, odds are, you're dead. Period. End of story. There's a reason you had to use it in the first place, and now you're going to eat a grenade sandwich when you come out of it. And I did explain how to fix it.

  • Keaton - 13 years ago

I love how u all were dissing me and my armour lock when you dont even know how good i am with it! And to rippy, i guess you never played me be cause i know how to use it and i rarely loose in battle, and in conclusion, if your gonna diss, explain how to fix it or GTFO

@poseidon si:: "AL can be a complete game ruiner when abused by skilled players." Depends on what you mean by skilled. I've no quibbles fighting someone with it who uses it well. rippy above seems to think you should crowd in someone with AL which is a big invitation to get your team extinct. The problem with AL is that exploit where people can continuously jump in and out of it, making it impossible to kill them. That's not skill, that's taking advantage of a buggy part of the game.

For me, I chose sprint as it's good to get the jump on someone not paying attention to their sensor as well as for getting away on small maps. Camo and hologram are my next favourites for confusing the enemy then probably jetpack for certain levels where you can't get "pulled" so easily.

It's such a shame that my favourite three are the ones with the lowest amount of votes right now.

While I "like" Sprint, it's not exactly a favourite seeing as it's so generic, but there are plenty of times where I will forget that I don't have it and miss it!

As for my favourites Drop Shield and Evade are pretty handy in most situations, but my top one has to be Hologram. People in MP are so gullible, and it's pretty easy to get the jump on those Jetpack and Armour Lock noobs while they're busy chasing your Hologram. :D

@pseeidon si halograms are sweet on levels like count down when you have the shotgun or sword because people always camp those little side pockets with the drop-down-holes and on the side doorways. you just send one in in front of you and almost always get a guy with his back turned to you. other levels it is a bit tricky because it is hard to get cover to set up a proper hologram without someone seeing you send it out. but if you are good at it you can consistently trick an entire team.

    0nly n00bs use armor l0ck!!!!1!11!1
one on one, I never lose to an armor locking noob, but what bugs me about armor lock is when a team of 4 all use it and you just cannot kill anyone because of this. You get the jump on someone, and they lock up and then help arrives, and then THEY lock up and the the original guy pops out with full shields and now your health is low. I think the simple solution is to not have shields start recharging while in armor lock. This makes armor lock what it's supposed to be: an instant shield against an otherwise fatal blow. It would also be nice to tell which way someone in armor lock is facing. That way if you have them surrounded you can come in from behind and melee them for their stupidity.

feels to me that the more you play, the more you use em depending on the map & game type. For btb on huge maps camo is somewhat useless, ditto jetpack on countdown. AL can be a complete game ruiner when abused by skilled players but is great when used 'fairly', like spartan501 says.

I'm still yet to use hologram - i can see the point, for tricking people into giving their position away and getting the jump on them, but it feels unlikely that it would get you out of a tight spot or help you that often unless you camp in specific spots. Which is dull.

@keaton - if pros are sunning around with swords or stickies, would you choose not to engage armour lock, and die with pride? An odd comment.

Kinda feels like evade should regen a bit faster. At the moment the recharge rate is such that it doesn't feel that useful, but maybe i need more practice. I guess it could be quite cool if you knew exactly the distance to be away from someone so as to roll at them, slightly past them, and assassinate them.

I like Drop Shield for Campaign. However, other abilities have their uses and I often use Sprint, Jet Pack, Evade, and Active Camo as well.
I think Armor Lock is fine in Campaign and Firefight, but in multiplayer it's an imbalanced noob tool. Some people are "pro" at using it but they're really just being cheap. The only time a pro uses it is to destroy a vehicle trying to run them over.

  • sanchopan - 13 years ago

Armor lock is unbalanced. It repels everything, and is the ultimate noob tool.

It should be defeatable...plasma pistol should disable it, just like it disables a Wraith. Stickies should...stick. A double melee should break it down.

Something, anything should fix the unbalance that this stupid ability creates.

  • keaton sucks - 13 years ago

really? a noob running around? you are aware you are the one using armor lock, right?

  • Jordan - 13 years ago

Gotta be sprint, other abilities changed the whole Halo feel IMO.

  • Keaton - 13 years ago

Armor lock because it theris the noob runnin around w/ the sword or stickys its the only wey to stay alive

  • Newbie - 13 years ago

I'd say it's Jetpack, mostly because of it's usefulness in Firefight where you can gain altitude and launch rockets at clusters of enemies without beeing covered by the enviroment.

In campaign it's sprint, but I rarely use armor abilities since solo play require such a careful approach or you are toast :P
