For me Glock is the gun for the 21st Century, it has less moving parts, accurate and carry more ammo than Colt 1911. Remembering history Colt 45 was made on 1911, exclusively for the US expeditionary forces in the Philippines led by General Arthur McArthur , father of Gen Douglas McArthur. Colt 45 has a strong stopping power and it was was designed to stop the Moro's commiting suicide with a Kris sword chopping anybody head in a crowded area. In the olden time at Mindanao, Philippine they call that as " Moro Hurementado" today we call it as suicide bomber by Muslim Jihadist. Colt 45 1911, is the favorites and a big business for gunsmiths, because it has so many moving parts that you can have it accurized and customized.

Glock hands down. Acurate out to 40 yards(center mass). Volume of fire. Easily cleaned and repaired in the field. I carry a good old 17 most of the time because I can. Hot weather around town 2" snub with hydroshocks. I giving away my age aren't I. Thanks to those who gave me the right to make my own decition to carry.Semper fi

The 1911 is starting its second CENTURY of service and has won TWO World Wars, and god only knows how many insurrections, and straight up gunfights. As with the AK anyone can use one with minimal training, and even examples of 1911's 40+ years and countless rounds in the NG Armory just keep working. I was hit in the face by the slide from a NEW M9, I won't go near one thats been in service even 10 years, too many failures on that POS.
I think the Glock 17 is a fine weapon, but it needs too many modifications from the stock configuration to really work well (starting with the slide stop and mag release). I second the Hi-Power for an honorable mention, Browning was an absolute genious

The only reason I voted for the Colt is because you failed to put the Browning High Power on it. IMHO it is the only pistol that could possibly outrank the 1911. I'd have to think about it ALOT before I made a decision. AND they were both designed by the same person, John Moses Browning.

I have a G19 (remanufactured) was Boston PD gun. Got it in 98. I have owned numerous handguns over the last 40 years. I do not conceal carry the 19 because of its size but for pure fire power, reliability and accuracy IMHO there is no equal. Two 17+2 clips and as many have said before it will eat any 9mm ammo.
I carry a G26 equally reliable short brother for CC among others. Regards to all thankfully we can all have our favorites and have not lost that right.

The 1911 is a reliable weapon with good sights. The Glock, along with all it's good features, has horrendous Factory sights. I own a Glock 17 and carried a .45 in the USMC as pistol expert. I'd prefer fewer rounds and increased accuracy as with the 1911. The glock needs those extra rounds to make up for the poor sights, they're just sloppy. I also find the trigger pull too hard on the glock. You can remedy these deficiencies in the Glock pistol, but then it's Not factory anymore.

The AK is notoriously inaccurate. In full auto the barrel waves around like it was in a parade.

G22 can be converted into all calibers. Glock gets my vote.

i think its a mistake to exclude the FNH FiveSeven it does use a odd round but its in use by the military now, and will penetrate body armor, and has very little recoil and very accurate , they say its the closest thing to shooting a laser for accuracy.

1911? Isnt the AK cheap, reliable and user friendly?

  • idb - 13 years ago

The 1911 is expensive, prone to failure and heavy. On top of that it does not carry enough ammo. The Glock is reliable, carries 17 rounds and is inexpensive. The same traits as an AK47.

i think the poll caused undue issues because people started picking calibers over platforms...were as in the glock and Sig's they also come in multi calibers. All of the contestents should of been the same caliber.

The answer depends on what qualities you're comparing. While the 1911 might not be parallel to the ak in functionality you hear about bustin out a fawthee five more than any other gun in rap culture same as you do the ak.

C'mon guys, you got it backwards. The 1911 is the AR-15 of handguns. Amirite? They both serve a purpose.

    The 1911? reliable?
