I have enjoyed the voting and reading all the comments but I'm afraid I have to intervene. I am a long time eastern Maine basketball fan and I want to congratulate all teams in the tourney. I am very offended by the above commen regarding Lee Academy's team members not from "Maine". These students come to Lee Academy for a chance to go to school here in the US, and hopefully college. These students leave their families, and all they have ever known. While spending all school year over here, they ate treated just like any other student at school. They are encouraged to participate in school functions, dances, sports etc. That is part of the high school experience. I hear a lot of people saying Lee recruits, and that is simply ignorant. What people don't realize is for all the students who do come, very few participate in sports teams. Most are here for education. However, I doubt anyone would be saying anything about this had Lee not won a state championship, and they players not had talent. They have every right to be part of any program at Lee they want to. What a better experience to come to the US get a great education, and experience the most popular sport in maine high schools then the tourneys. Let's not take that away from them. Just so happened these international students had basketball skills, good for them and LA!

Aj's floater through the lane was amongst 3 opposing players. Didn't realize that WA only had "Maine" students.

Fan- I don't think you know what you're talking about. The comment about girls basketball not being like it used to be has nothing to do with being "easy". Just simply means that the level of skill and ability has decreased a lot! Any team you watched in the tournament, including WA, doesn't even come close to comparing to the teams back a few years ago. You look back at Woodland, Calais, Lee Academy, Houlton, etc in the years 2005-2008/2009, no girls basketball team even comes close to comparing to the ability and skill level that these teams had. Congrats to WA for winning the EM title, very deserving as they are the best team. And as far as the comment about the kids not from Maine. Your point is? Maine state basketball tournament just simply means its a tournament in Maine, obviously. What do you want it to be called? No where does it state every person competing in the Highschool basketball tournament needs to be born and raised in Maine. And agreed, credit should be given to those 3 players as they are outstanding basketball players. However, AJ was named the MVP of the tournament and LED his team to a State Championship with 27 points! Congrats AJ!

And, pandafan, Eastern Maine Girls basketball is not how it used to be? What are you saying? That the Washington Academy girls only won because it was easy? You obviously don't know what you're talking about. They had to beat undefeated Central in the semifinals, and Orono in the final in their hometown. Those girls deserve every bit of what they EARNED and you trying to take that away from them is downright appalling. Oh and by the way, maybe some of the credit for your state title should be given to the 3 students who played on your team who weren't even from Maine, yet they helped win the Maine State Basketball Tournament.
Fan - 13 years ago
Excuse me, 'Pandafan', but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. ' I think it should be between macfarland and Harris as they are the most deserving of the 3'. Why is that? Seeley has played her heart out for four years, and her move was the game winning shot to lead her team to the first EM title in girls' basketball at Washington Academy EVER. Harris didn't even make a move, he simply caught it in the lane and finished. Seeley was heavily guarded by two defenders and still managed to score to win the championship. Like others have said before, this vote is not about overall tournament play, but the individual plays you can view on the previous page. The MVP awards are given out for players with overall great tournaments, and all these players recieved that award. When you look at all the plays, and the outcomes of those individual plays, it is clear who should win this contest. GO TAYLOR!
Basketball Fan - 13 years ago
Let's all remember that this is a poll for fun and for "the play of the week", not the player of the tournament. No million dollar prize will be awarded! Undoubtedly, the winning shot in an Eastern Maine Championship game should be a contender. These three players are certainly deserving of high accolades such as their respective MVP awards. They were all key players in their team's quest for state championships. While Taylor's team came up short for the state title, it cannot be disputed that the play in question for her produced the winning basket that led to the title for the Eastern Maine Champion Raiders. Congratulations to all the players for being recognized for their contributions to the fun known as basketball in Maine!

Keep up the great work and you will get far! This is not about if you know the person or not, it's about who had the BEST PLAY OF THE WEEK! What part of that don't people get! VOTE FOR AJ!!!!

My mistake. I guess I worded that wrong. Yes for your information I did go to the game but no I had no interest in watching WA. Girls basketball in eastern Maine is nothing like it used to be if you want to know the truth. My point was that AJ lead his team to a STATE title. Not that WA winning an eastern Maine wasn't great, because that's a nice accomplishment. However because of Harris and the rest of the pandas, Lee took it the farthest it could go by winning states. That's what I was trying to say. Your last sentence explained perfectly why there shouldn't be contests like this. You know Taylor so that's why your voting for her. You don't have to know either of the men to vote for them. I think it should be between macfarland and Harris as they are the most deserving of the 3, but the public obviously doesn't agree. Congrats to all nominees!!

As you said pandafan, "Both mens players were both vying for the state title, where as Seely did not. AJ lead his team to the first ever state title in school history. Point blank he made it further then Seely."
My response to this is are you blind? Taylor and her team played in a state final as well. I am assuming if you went to the state game Lee played right after WA. Yes they may have lost but this was the first ever EM crown for WA in girls bball.
I voted for Taylor. Not only because I am a WA fan but because unlike the other two gentlemen I dont know them and I have known Taylor for a number of years.
No matter the outcome of this poll, they are all great plays and congrats to all involved.

I think that AJ deff should get play of the week! His shot had style and did lead the Pandas to win there first gold ball. He is a senior and is always praticing for hours at the gym. He always shows good sportsmenship and is always good to to his other team mates. He shows them all respect. Also he helped his team to become the boys team with the Best Record in Class C 17-1. They also won PVC Champions, and Eastern Maine Class C chamipons! Than he also helped them win States for Class C. And he also was MVP! So AJ should win play of the week hands down.

I personally believe A.J. Harris deserves the award above all because 1.) He was the MVP of his respective state championship game with an astounding 27 points. 2.) He has lead his school to there FIRST EVER Varsity Boys state title. 3.) His team went 17-1 regular season under his leadership. and 4.) He isn't just an offensive threat, but he can run the ball, rebound, play tight defense, draw fouls and give 110% night in and night out. I respect the other players and their plays as well, but A.J. is a Senior, let's pay tribute to his 4 dedicated years as a Panda.

What is up with the capital letters in your comment, csp bball? Are you implying the other nominees complain? If not, my apologies. If so, then in regards to AJ, you haven't watched many games. Even though this contest is "play of the week", all 3 nominees were MVP of the tourney in their respective classes. It seems that the contest is based on an individual play, but the clips that are shown are really not that great for any of the 3 players. So then you look at each players individual tournament and stats. Both mens players were both vying for the state title, where as Seely did not. AJ lead his team to the first ever state title in school history. Point blank he made it further then Seely. That should count for something. This isn't a popularity contest, it should be about the players accomplishments for the 2011 tournament. Compare Harris's tournament to Seelys and you have your winner right there.

A.J. deserves the award. Not only did he make many "plays of the week" during both the eastern maine tourney and the state game but he is like having another coach on the floor.Very heady player, rebounds, shoots, dribbles and plays defense and last but not least has to play for his dad and it is not easy for any kid to play for a parent

AJ Harris for sure. I'm not even a big fan of Lee but AJ did amazing at his state game. Senior this year and has wanted this all his life. He deserves it. He has an amazing shot, and gets more rebounds than half of the bigger players. Truely a great player and leader.

People are remembering that. But the play that they showed for Aj harris hands down had more stlye then the other two. Yes Taylors was nice but didnt really have any style to it. I believe people are voting accordingly and are going to vote for who had the best play. Aj should win it hands down. Aj lead lee to their first boys Basketball state championship ever and he also received Class C Tourney MVP!

People have to remember that this is not a vote for tournament play in general, they make the MVP award for that, which Taylor Seeley did win. This vote is based solely on the plays shown, and people should vote accordingly.

Aj Deserves it hands down!! 27 points in States been playing since he could walk. Aj is a really good player all around. He's played extremely hard all 4 years that he's played. The other two had nice plays but I believe Aj deserves It. Aj's was also in the State game and that was one of the play that lead them to win.

AJ Harris did an excellent job in the tourney. He did an outstanding job with and for his team,
he gets to share this moment with his father , you don't see many father son teams that play hard for this title. He knows how to share the glory.

AJ should win this. Other nominees are deserving but Harris had 27 in the state final, where Taylor was Eastern Maine. Not sure about McFarland. Let's give credit where it's due, congrats to all nominees, but states is the top. 27 points in that game and tourney class c MVP. Need we say more...

AJ deserves the votes. Taylor had a nice play but her play was in the Eastern Maine's. AJ scored 27 in the State Game to lead his team to their first state title in like 70 years. Play vs play i have to give it to AJ. Congrats to Washington Academy as well.

All nice plays, but Taylor is deserving of play of the week. Awesome tournament Taylor and the WA Team.
Taylor Seeley is an over achiever in all aspects of her life. Playing inside at 5'9 like she is 6'4 has to be recognized . Rock solid four years in a row. Congratulations WA.
A.J Harris deserves this. He has played basketball since he was in diapers. :) A.J is an amazing and outstanding basketball player. He works well with his team and helps them stick together to be a better team. Congradualations A.J!
Taylor Seeley deserves to be recognized. Maybe it was mentioned during tourneys, but I didn't hear it announced that Taylor did get her 1000th point this year . We are so very proud of her.
taylor seeley deserves all the votes she can get she started as a freshman and last year in high she has worked hard for every thing she has gotten
