I don't think he should have been in the bottom three. However I think they were quick to use the save.

People are forgetting what this show is all about. This is the biggest scam on tv. The show is simply looking for the contestants they want to advance. They'll probably add a second save next week, in case.
Seacrest is a big a-hole. It's discusting the way he handles the eliminations. It's all about the show, not the singers.

I am glad Casey was saved. He deserves to go on the road and is an asset to American Idol.

Maybe he needed a shock to wake up and not take things for granted. I hope he will show his softer side and sing a ballad. His screeching was getting out of control and boring.

Casey, sing to the public, appeal to the audience. Your angry rendition does not get you to the top.

He is the ideal American Idol - he has a different style. He should make a movie with Seth Rogen and I know it will be a great hit.

Trisha and Sara are right: Casey is so good that it's possible too many voted for underdogs; and the judges played the honesty card.

That's it -- I'm not voting for any more underdogs! (No, I didn't vote this time, but I have voted for underdogs before.) Casey, Jacob, Pia, Lauren, David -- you're in! Everybody else -- you're good, but just not good enough.

Who's #1? There are still a lot of shows to decide this.

I have t o agree Casey should have never been in the bottom three. I was shocked when he was placed in the bottom 3. What is America thinking. American Idol needs to change the voting and let the judges pick who ges home and who stays. Too many fan favorites and who ever whats to sit there calling in 100 of time and text their brains off is not the way t ojudge a wiiner. I agree with the other two being in the bottom 3, but no way should have Casey been there.

he is a clown and he will never make it!!

  • Laurel - 13 years ago

Casey SUCKS. He was definitely the worst this week and last week was the most horrible thing I've ever seen on Idol. He should've gone home after that trainwreck of a performance with the Nirvana song. He grunts, he growls, he screams, he makes stupid facial expressions and acts like a moron with a personality defect. The only thing he doesn't do is sing well. America got it right this week and the judges were wrong.

I am glad they saved Casey, but it is too bad they were forced to use the save so early. That is the problem with their voting process. I have written to AI in past years suggesting they change the voting so that GREAT singers aren't eliminated by a flawed voting system. I really think the most effective way of eliminating a person each week is for people to vote for who should be eliminated! That way people zero in on the bottom people (for the most part) instead of voting for someone that is good that might be eliminated and then the 3rd , 4th, 5th best can be eliminated because voters are focusing on the top couple of people plus other people trying to save personal favorites that really are at the bottom of the group. And voting hundreds of times is absurd. Each phone should be allowed no more than 10 votes. Otherwise we give too much power to organized "calling parties" by partisan groups and wild texting votes from obsessed teens.
Casey is very talented. I don't think he should win the whole thing, but he should be on the tour and is certainly a better entertainer than Thia and Paul and Scotty. Anyone who thinks that Scotty is as talented as the rest, just doesn't know talent...they are likely "Country western" fans (I am too) and are voting on something other than who is the best singer and performer.
I think all 11 are talented, but because of the screwy voting rules, I expect another shocker elimination in coming weeks and the judges will be unable to correct the next "that's just wrong" vote from America.
Taylor who ? Chris who ? Jordan who ? Lee who ? Reuben who ?
Adam and Clay were robbed. They are both miles better singers than the winner.
This year the best are Pia, Jacob, and James.

To Steven: I totally agree with everything you said!! "Out of the mouth" of a person who reeaally knows music!! Hope everyone reads your comment. Read and learn, read and learn!! Thanks Steven for some great music wisdom!!

  • Sandy - 13 years ago

I am glad they saved Casey although he is not one of my fav I don't think is was time for him to go yet. I thin Niami should go and NOW!! I don't think she should have ever been put through there were much better singers that her when the judges were having them sing for their lives. Scotty and Lauren are my pick. Just sayin!!

  • Steven - 13 years ago

I'm just going to talk about it a bit from a different point of view. Such as if these contestants were all in music school.

Casey IS really talented. He's an exceptional upright bass player for jazz and r&b styles, has insane rhythmic skills, perfect pitch, and a good (but maybe not outstanding) voice.

the sound of your voice isn't a talent - it's a fluke of nature combined with some hard work. but talent is your ear for pitch, your rhythmic feel, tempo control, and is certainly shown by his ability to sing very complex jazz vocals over top of very complex fretless upright bass playing (complete with double stops) without a single mis-step.

However much I respect Casey for his talent and skill though, his voice is NOT as great as some of the others', and probably more importantly his song choices and decisions until this week were terrible. His Nirvana song was really pretty badly performed imho. Cobain is rolling over in his grave somewhere. Even the tone of his bass with the amazing ampeg svt amp on stage was bad!? I guess he's not much of an electric player, better on upright.

To me, someone like Paul is tragically outclassed by every other singer there. He can't sing reliably in tune these days (probably just isn't trying to, but either way it's getting on my nerves now), and his voice can be nice but not when he does the bob dylan pitchless thing for half of a song.

Compared to vocalists with best-in-world skills, tone, range, and musicianship like Lusk, Pia, James, Hailey (ok she has strange and not too commercial taste in songs, but absolutely crazy vocal skills), Stefano (I personally dislike his vocal tone and find him really emotionally boring, but great skills), and Naima (who also has insane vocal skills and talent but is obviously an experienced older jazz singer and is out of her comfort zone on idol), the rest are really having to stretch to keep up.

Casey keeps up by having such insane talent that he makes up for probably not having the great vocal chops of those others nor the amazing powerful tone of the others, but he can choose notes and control his voice in ways that stefano, paul, and the rest of the girls I didn't mention yet can't even understand.

Stefano drove me nuts last week when he sang one of the notes a semi tone wrong consistently through his song - he obviously doesn't have the real musical training or, maybe, the ear and experience, to pull of complex pieces of music. Put Casey, James, Lusk, Pia, Naima or Hailey on that song and they'd not only understand and learn the melody correctly but could add their own twist to it along the way.

But I'm analyzing it from a technical musical point of view which is different from popular opinion probably :-)

I just hate to see people throw the word talent around as a negative (untalented) just because they dislike someone's taste in music or style or look or tone of their voice. Talent is the raw stuff we're born with that gives us great pitch, great rhythm, great creativity and so on to become musicians. If we have the tone and control over our voices then we can become singers. But I would be shocked to find out that any of those contestants isn't talented - there would have to be some pretty amazing post production on the live shows to make them sound that good LoL.

@Elby HAHAHA.... Sounds like you forgot to stop watching Idol when you stopped watching. You just happen to tune into this episode? I love when people threaten to stop watching. You watch. You love it. lol.

  • linda d - 13 years ago

Have watched Idol since the 2nd season so a big fan of the show. this year is tough to pick who is the best. It was a crazy show last night. I think america got it wrong putting Casey in the bottom and sending him home. America has gotten it wrong for several years. the only 2 Idols to really make it has been Kelly and Carrie. alot of runners-up have done better than the official idol. The past 3 years Idols haven't done anything and probably won't. The judges should have saved their save for later and the voting should be limilted to a certain amount like it was in the beginning. If their is 10 contestants then 10 votes. 2 hours of voting as many times as you want is ridiculous. Like our panel of judges this year, they are great. Hope America gets it right this year.

  • ELBY - 13 years ago

I Dont really know what the judges where listening to , I mean Casey has now WOW Factor, so I think he probably did not deserve the save ,and Randy kills me I mean people who are really Talented he puts them down this guy they keep talking about how great his is . I had stopped watching AMERICAN IDOL years ago because of this and I dont think they should let the judges every pick the WINNER. I will also stop watching AMERICAN IDOL NOW AGAIN .

  • Jane - 13 years ago

My grandaughter and I almost panicked when it looked like Casey was going but than thank heavens for the judges using their save so go Casey go all the way!

  • Wendy - 13 years ago

I agree with you Trisha on the Jacob thing...he is good but he irritates me to no end. I also don't know why Naima is still there either....I don't like her at all and when she did "Umbrella" I nearly crapped, it was horrible and the judges loved it...whatever!
Pia and Lauren are really good, but out of the two, I think Pia is the best.

  • Critical Pathfinder - 13 years ago

Yes, he should have been saved, but he had better take the advice the judges (through Paula) had to offer. He blew me away in his earlier performances, but somewhere along the line he got the mistaken impression that he was infallible. He forgot that he still needed to stay somewhat mainstream and authentic. The last couple of weeks it seems he was angry at the world, and that translated to his audience. I hope he comes back to reality...otherwise the save will have been for nothing because the audience will know.

  • Wendy - 13 years ago

Casey has been my choice since the beginning.....James coming in next. There is something very different and unigue about Casey, he seems very down to earth. He is just an ordinary guy with a KILLER voice!!! Thank God the Idol Judges were on his side. Still don't know and will never understand how he even ended up being the one at the bottom....that was very screwed up if you ask me. Thankfully he is safe now so go Casey, GO!!!! Keep on doin what you do best!

  • steph - 13 years ago

This had to be the most memorable moment of idol ever. I think the judges did the right thing.
I think he could win this thing . You could definitely see FEAR in the other contestants eyes when the judges made that announcement .
    Good job judges!!

  • Trisha - 13 years ago

you guys are forgetting about Chris Daughtry...what we found out after he got eliminated early was that people tend for vote for people they like but have a feeling could get eliminated..assuming someone like Casey will be fine because of how many other people will vote for him....enough people assume that and this is what you get. vote for who you truly like and this won't happen. Casey should at least be in the top 4. This year is tough, there is so much talent. I love most of the guys..not a huge scotty fan, I think he is talented at what he does, but I don't like country music. I love Paul, James and Casey..jacob is amazing, but he bugs me...I HATE Naima...I can't believe she is still on the show...pia is great.....the rest..eh....don't care

  • oogiet - 13 years ago

What are you people talking about? His performances are horrible! He in no way embodies what American Idol is about. If he wins, you will have another Taylor Hicks on your hands! Taylor who? exactly! he had talent but has sold nothing since his AI win. Casey probably ranks about 4th only because he is a talented musician. And who cares if he went this week or in the next few? they wasted their save in my opinion.

  • Cnick - 13 years ago

I agree with Max. In the big picture......is he really recording artist material? In a band, maybe.......but solo.......I don't think so. Either way, I think it was waaaaaaay to early to use the save.

  • Mi Mi - 13 years ago

In my opinion, the judges WASTED a good vote! America spoke and they don't like Casey Abrams. REALLY, what are the judges seeing that America is not? The other talent is sooo much better than Casey! Seriously Jennifer, you think Casey is cute??? SERIOUSLY???

  • sara - 13 years ago

This was the first time in my life to see the judges are REALLY honest, it is NOT like dancing with the star ... I love watching American Idol and I encourage all my friend to watch ... U (judges) made the different ... Casey is the one who should not get eliminate ... Thanks for seeing the Truth ... YOU (judge) know more than the ordinary people... I love you guys ...

  • Gata - 13 years ago

I thought Casey deserved a chance to sing a song without growling. Hopefully we will hear some of the soulfulness that his bass brought out in him. That growling was for the bears!!!

but, I must say I am glad that Stefano was save, I really like him and he is the only one I voted for. My favorites from Wednesday night performances were Stefano (just because), Haley, and James.

  • Art Teel - 13 years ago

Casey should have never been in the bottom three. American Idol needs to change the voting and let the judges pick who ges home and who stays. Leting America vote is the wrong way of doing it. Too many fan favorites. Look at the past seasons, this may be my last year of watching. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE RESULTS....

  • Max - 13 years ago

I don't think he is that good. He is a good musician, but something is missing. His Nirvana cover was a parody. And so was this week performance. He is funny to watch but I don't see him as a recording artist.

  • Liz Murphy - 13 years ago

I can't believe Casey was even in the bottom 3. He should've never even been close to being in the bottom 3. I'm glad the judges saved him, and they took no time to do it.

  • steve bsutej - 13 years ago

that was a travesty! My God, he was one of the top 4 in my opinion, which i'm sure any sane person who knows music would agree, if not the best of all of them! I think the public having 100% control of who wins is a joke anyway. Anyone can stuff the ballot box n i'm sure thats what happened. I'm really considering no longer watching American Idol because of what happened to Casey!
