1.“Steiner shows up to ask Jane (whom he knows is ill) for the same favor he asked him here.”

Your poorly written sentence results in incorrect information. It should say:

"Steiner shows up to ask Jane (who knows Steiner is ill) for the same favor he asked him here.”

2.“but we didn’t see Jane applauding him or lauding his actions despite being able to emphasize with him.”

I think you meant EMPATHIZE, not emphasize.

FYI -- This show is NEVER about the cases. This show is about Red John, and Jane’s growth. Not sure why the writer of this article doesn’t understand that. The ending of this episode was brilliant, and the perfect balance to the opening. I’m thrilled that the writer didn’t whitewash the episode just to please primitive-minded viewers. It was daring to explore tonal changes, as that makes for the most interesting writing. I also applaud the exploration of suicide for terminally ill patients, as “right to die” is an important social issue.

The acting and writing in the final scene was sublime - had me speechless - and I want to find it on youtube to share with friends. It deserves an Emmy.
