I realized that I mistakenly left out Jackie Kelly from Sea. She is an outstanding hitter and fielder and also plays top level ASA Gold Travel Ball.

The St. Francis Prep Pitcher, Katie Derby, is not only an outstanding and underrated pitcher in NYC, but is also an amazing hitter. I have seen her take some of the top pitchers from top travel ball teams deep. She is a consistent number 4 hitter, with tremendous power and can hit for average, if I am not mistaken from HS games that I have seen and read about she is hitting well over .500 if not closer to .600. She has lead the Prep team in Doubles the last two years. Her pitching is also quite underrated also. As a sophomore she came on in relief in game one of the B/Q final and basically stopped the bleeding despite losing. She pitched outstanding last year and was barely recognized. This year she is pitching at an even higher level racking up tons of strikeouts and is finally starting to be somewhat recognized as a threat. I agree it is a biased poll. Preston plays in a rather weak division and gets clobbered by Prep, Molloy, Sea, and Moore Catholic. I feel that the girls who deserve to be nominated in the poll are Kate Miller- plays top level ASA gold; Nicole Palase- also plays top level ASA gold, Victoria McFarland- also plays top level travel ball; Gina Gerrone- Madison; Katie Derby- also plays top level travel ball; Maria Palmeri- also plays top level travel ball.

Softball Slugger refers to one that can hit the ball for power and average. It has nothing to do with pitching. I'm unsure what your comment is referring to since the article is all about middle of the order power hitting.

What the heck kind of poll is this? You leave out pitchers who perform better than the ones you have nominated. I believe that Molloy has a pitcher who brought their team to the state championship last year (pitching both games) and she is not nominated? I believe St. Francis Prep has a pitcher who has performed very well this year as well as last year. Where is her name? I believe your poll is a biased joke.
