Wow. Obviously the National Post is only 'National' if you live anywhere excepts for British Columbia. First of all, Team Canada is Canada's team; enough said on that issue. Secondly, thank you for ensuring that as a proud Canucks fan I will go forth and read other newspapers for my sports. However, obviously one biased journalist does not speak for the rest of Canada as I can see currently 80% of voters in this poll WILL be cheering for the Canucks. Go 'Nucks Go!

I just canceled my subscription, what a joke this columnist is. I'm done with this paper

This is a case of a "journalist" not being able to separate his personal dislike for a city. His lack of objectivity is disappointing. OK so we're all a little envious of Vancouver's weather, beauty, lifestyle, Olympics etc. And ya...this year we're jealous of the hockey team. But that is no reason to hate it's team. My friends in Vancouver cheered the Flames, Oilers and Senators runs. I don't know what city this writer is from but this article is really about a guy trying to overcome an inferiority complex.

And besides...his article says we shouldn't cheer the Canucks because they ARE good!?!?! And that it's un-Canadian!?!? Shouldn't we cheer Canadian success instead of mediocrity? Why is he advocating that we lower our standards?!?!?...Maybe so we sink to his level.

First I thought this is a Joke section in the paper. I hope it is because this article is written by someone who never watched the vancoucer canucks played. How hard they played all year. And year after year, all the team memebers from the GM to coach to players try to improve every year. Even despite the fact that they have to endure all the criticisms and pressure to perform (especially this year first round with Chicago). The canucks are true Canadian team where all the players take care of each other, work together and play as hard as they can. I really wish that canucks would win the cup for the first time in franchise history. I really think a lot of Canadians would feel the same way.
THis article made me realize why I don't read national post when the flight attendants give me newspapers to choose. No wonder they are struggling to make profits. No wonder why they have to hire this ignorant columnist..
Oh, by the way, I am in Toronto.

    wow jealous much?

you must be dying with envy that the Canucks were able to beat their arch rival of 2 yrs and move on.

get a life. you just wasted my time with this garbage article.

the van/chi series was definitely exciting to watch with its ups and downs.

Im from Toronto, and im a die hard Maple leaf fan. But cause Vancity is the only team representing Canada right now, why not cheer for them? Yes we all have our favorite teams to cheer for, but if your Canadian and and actually want a Canadian team to win a Cup, Vancouver as of now has the chance too? Joe I dont know if you have something against Vancouver, or you just dont want to stay up late to do your homework or watch highlights for your column but your reasons for hating on the Canucks are just stupid? seriously now? have you actually read your own column?? lol Joe, have you been to Vancouver? were you there during the Olympics? cause when i went to Vancouver i had the best time of my life! you should go visit lol.

National post IF you read this, i hope you guys find another columnist for your sports section, cause this guy you have sure aint doing a great job. And from the other post i read above mine, it sure seems a lot of subscribers decided to leave. Maybe its the lack of respect and lack of information Joe has a hockey team. good night John. I hope to never see your name under a National Post sports column ever again.... Count me in for dropping my description...

    John

Now I'm laughing at poor Joe O'Connor. No eastern Canadian team left in the playoffs. Oh dear, what will you do? Stay up late to watch Vancouver? Didn't notice that the Canucks were the best team in the entire NHL over the 82 regular season games eh Joe? Forgot that the Toronto Maple Laughs didn't make the playoffs again Joe? Oh dear. Montreal went out in the first round eh Joe? Oh dear.

But thank you for your funny article - I really enjoyed reading about your chagrin at Vancouver's success. Oh dear, poor old Joe. I hope that your disappointment becomes more bitter as Vancouver goes deeper into the playoffs.

    Poor old Joe O'Connor.

    Seriously?

  • peter dewit - 13 years ago

Couldn't disagree more with this petty un-Canadian-tribe...

    Peter,

A Rangers Fan lving in Bangkok who now cheers for the Canucks!

  • Justin - 13 years ago

This 'article' is pure garbage. How it made it into a National Newspaper is astonishing...

  • Toshikata - 13 years ago

This isn't even news worthy, Christ I wanted the Flames and Oilers to win when they were on their respective 'runs'. Write Joe an email expressing your disgust.

  • Mike - 13 years ago

First of all, i can not believe a columnist would actually post this, especially from the national post. You are representing the National Post and you decide to post this up?? wow, id be surprised if you still have your job by next week. your thoughts on why "YOU" dont like the Canucks are ridiculous. Twins sure suck eh? too bad Henrik wont the Heart last year, and a high possibility Daniel might win it this year. anyways i just canceled my subscription with your news paper, and the lady asked me why? well i said cause of you. and i know many canadians will do the same.. cheers

Loser, this article is a JOKE - get a life buddy !

  • Louis - 13 years ago

Thanks O'conner what are you a dumbass leafs fan? You like to root for a team that sells out its arena every night but still can't make the playoffs. What are you Mr.Ontario can't root for a west coast team because you'll break out in hives and spew green venom. In otherwords your jealous of Vancouver because it's successful. It hosted the best Winter Olympics to date something I daresay Toronto could ever do. That's probably where you live. You think we're granola crunchers who lucked out. Well guess what our track record speaks differently and when you can accomplish the same then you can trash Vancouver.

The Vancouver/ Chicago series was the best series of the first round. That is playoff hockey with it's ups and downs. You, you just need to stop drinking the cynicism and start to enjoy a great Canadian past time and that is playoff hockey. You know what? You are probably the greatest
hypocrite ever if you are trying to tell people not to jump on the bandwagon. Everybody jumps
on the bandwagon because everybody likes to win. The only reason you don't want to is
probably because you have insecurities and the only way you feel good about yourself is when
your going against popular opinion because your "different". Well if you want to be a loser go for it. I personally would root for any Canadian team left in the playoffs because I'm Canadian. I would even root for the leafs because east coast west coast who gives a crap we're one country and nobody plays better hockey than Canadians and Canadian teams.

How on earth this articale get into a reputable newspaper. The editor should be responsible for this garbadge . Anyway he might think he is so smart written all this garbage. As for me I am canceling three subscription accounts. Who is laughing now. Vancover fans start canceling subscription and we will see he is laughing or crying.

  • Ron - 13 years ago

What a loser! Prolly a 12 year old writing on behalf of his dad who drinks too much and had a deadline. How did this ever get past the Editorial Staff? And the National Post wonders why it's hard to get subscribers?

    ...meh?
