Ok, I tried to start using amazon store, and went to dl a free app and they want either my cc number, my atm number, or to go purchase a giftcard... what happened to free? Am I the only person who has a prob with this? If I PURCHASE something, then ask for my info. What hapens when you give a kid a phone with the app store having direct access to your cc number? If you turn the 1-clic bs then you can't download anything... I hate (positively loath!) Google and the bs they keep adding onto my phone without my concent, but I WILL NOT givve out my sensitive info to shop free apps, period.

How 'bout adding another question such as : I would use Amazon if stupid AT&T would let me

The other thing one needs to keep in mind is that I can access the Android Marketplace from where I live. The Amazon store is a US specific thing.

And Amazon is not a big brand in India.

Believe it are not, but there are people (like myself) who do not like or trust Amazon. I was burned by them 5 years ago and never used their services again.

    Possible off topic:
I don't see non curated apps as the problem, I see unnecessary permissions a bigger problem. I believe a majority of apps have permissions that don't need for operation. Thats why I rooted my Droid X. It seems thats only way to get real security against bad apps. I renamed the app's apk file for apps I 'll never use (verizon crapware) and the questionable apps go behind a firewall. There should be some sort of curation by permission, I would pay for that.
