I voted 'no' on the proposed road, and will continue to do so until such a time that there is a clear demonstration that it is in the best interest of THE WHOLE CITY--all residents, all traffic (both car, bike, and foot), that are here today and yet to come. One would think that would be the primary criteria all along the way; however, the unfortunate viewpoint of narrowly looking only backward, and looking at Olde Towne as the driver, seems to negate the big picture perspective. Actually, why should a poll of this issue for Old Towne residents have any major impact on anything, anyway? How is it relevant to something that impacts all of TC? There are far too many questions to answer, with data, and on a look-forward basis. If in fact BLA is good for the city, then the protracted study with hard data should clearly bear it out as a viable and positive step for everyone. Objective, open study and data is the only thing that counts. If BLA is not supported by real data analysis, then 'no road' is the answer----regardless of what the Olde Towne resident survey may show. This project is too important and permanent to do on the basis of anything other than demonstrated objectivity.
    may yield.

As a member of the Old Town Neighborhood Association, I was at a meeting where those who designed the proposed road (I believe Gourdie Fraser?) presented details about it to the neighbors, I can tell you that it is DEFINITELY planned as a neighborhood by-pass to move cars quickly, and when I questioned the speed limit (at LEAST 35 mph), I was told to "think of the Grandview Parkway" in terms of what it would be like.

One of the things I noticed regrettably as soon as I moved to Traverse City, is that there is a highway built right next to every body of water. If it gets cleaned up Boardman Lake might be an asset to the City, but not with a highway on its shores. We don't need it.

What a regrettable way for them to run a survey - no room for "yes IF" or "not unless". I look forward to a conversation when they come to my door.

My "impression" is that the City favors a road with limited connection to neighborhood streets; i.e. NOT another part of the grid. If this is the intent, I agree with Ed (above). We definitely don't need another Grandview type street that extends only a few blocks. I can't see how such a road can possibly work.

But I have missed a number of the meetings, so may be completely off base.

As far as I know, the city has not defined what kind of a road it would be. Would it be a neighborhood by-pass designed to move cars quickly, or an extension of the neighborhood grid, with safe pedestrian access to the trail and recreation areas? In my opinion it makes a huge difference. I do not think we need another Grandview Parkway in the city.
