Hi Cheryl You probably had your questions answered already, but just in case... oil of cloves can be purchased at a health food store or sometimes in a pharmacy. It can be pricy, but it goes a long way and makes your studio smell nice. You may know this already, but your paint fridge should not be the same one you use for food.

The amount to squeeze out can depend on the color. For instance, you might squeeze out a two-inch string of white versus a 1/2-inch sting of a less used color. Also, different pigments dry out at different rates. If you're planning to paint for the next several days, it's safe to squeeze out a long string of the slow drying cadmiums, but smaller amounts of the earth colors (i.e. burnt umber) as they dry fast and overnight the pile will have a skin.

thanks Kim! I'm not sure where to get the oil of cloves but this sounds like a great idea.

To each his own, everyone has his or her technique. Personally, I rarely pre-mix colours on my palette. Rather I squeeze a small amount of each colours and mix them as I go, often directly on the canvas - A little bit of this, a little bit of that - Overtime I came up with my colour recopies, resulting in that I know how to re-make the colours I need if I run short of.

But to your question: Yes you can refrigerate oil. When I do I put them in an old margarine container and close the lid on. It can last about a week. If you have some oil of cloves, add a drop to your paint before closing the lid and refrigerate. It'll make it last a little longer.
