Who will win this battle?

If we are talking who can make their audience believe something than this could be an actual battle. Just incase you thought they are. They are not. There is no debate anyone one of the fox 'pundits' including Bill could ever win against John for one simple reason. John uses facts and logic to form his opinions unlike fox (and if you've ever watched johns show and seen the VIDEO CLIPS of proof you'd know) does nothing of the sort.

Also my fav argument against john is stating that 'he is not a news anchor he is a comedian and he says so himself' Is the most laughable argument ever. There is no doubt that is who he is and what he believes he is. HOWEVER that does not negate the facts and logic and opinions he derives. Its not a, well hes a comedian so all that information he just showed and clips to prove it mean nothing cuz he is a comedian. PLEASE. Saying you are something does not mean the words that come out of your mouth mean anything different. Wake up and fucking figure it out.

I don't know much about Common, but if the debate is on whether or not he supports cop-killing, then, on the face of it, it seems racist to me. Fox News would never single out, say, a white C &W singer with controversial lyrics, like say for example, Hank Williams III, and make these sort of accusations or raise such a kerfluffle. Furthermore, I highly doubt that Fox News would blink an eye over lyrics that supported killing minorities, especially immigrants. You can bet that a song by Toby Kieth, full of pride and swagger about killing Muslims, would rise to the top of the charts. If Common is a cop-killer, then Fox News is a color-killer.

Just for the record...President G.W Bush DID invite Ozzy Osbourne to the White House.

  • Go Jon! - 13 years ago

"This poll shows just how much Jon Stewart audience really knows" / "Ozzie Osborn"
/ "as he him self states"

Texasoil: REALLY hard to take anything you have to say seriously after that grammatically challenged rant.

Bill O'reilly is not a journalist. Common's song for Assata Shakur, does not condone or encourage killing cops. The song proclaims her innocense and makes a case for it. It does not argue that what she was convicted of what right or justified in anyway. The song argues that she in fact didn't do it. The same way Dylan argued for Hurricane Carter a decade beofre he was released. Arguing for someone's innocence is not the same as condoning their behavior. Dylan was not saying killing people in a robbery was ok..he was saying the Carter didn't do it. Common is making the same plea. Whether he is right or wrong I don't know or care. What I do know is he is neither advocating or condoning killing cops

The passing reference to Mumia Abu Jamal is actually a reference to a flyer with that on it. Again he neither advocates on behalf of the act or justifies it.

BTW - Ozzy was invited..by George Bush, even though Ozzy actually tried to kill his wife...does Bush condone wife killing?

Secondly, a poet/songwriter's words are not necessarily what the artist advocates. Springsteen never went to vietnam, but he wrote from the point of view of someone who did. When Dylan sings "Tangled up in Blue" he didn't really "use to much force" to get a girl out of a jam. It is unfair to take any songwriter's lyrics and say that is the songwriter's beliefs. It may be a perspective they were using to illustrate a point or show the irony of a given belief system.

Sean Hannity's theme song is about an abused woman burning down the house with the abuser inside from the psychologically scarring viewpoint of a child. Does this mean Hannity advocates abused women murdering their abusers? Does the songwriter? I doubt it, in both cases.

Stewart will win because facts, logic and reason are on his side, he may be a comedian but that doesn't make him wrong.

This poll shows just how much Jon Stewart audience really knows.
First off Jon is a comedian not a journalist as he him self states. he is an entertainer and that is it. he frames things to be funny not as fact as Bill does.
Every thing Bill states is fact and he backs it up. That is why Jon is going on.
This rapper along with many rapper promotes anarchy. Granted he is not the first but people must understand what he does. He has a right to speak his mind but should be ready to be call on it. He does not promote a positive outlook for many youths.
We had them when I was growing up and my parents generation called them out too. But to be invited to the white house is some thing else. Can you imagine if Nixon invited Ozzie Osborn to the white house. There would have been a big media driven out rage in America.
