you've been working very hard. there's a lot of world, and people to see. what will you do with a doctorate that you can't do without one? what is the reason for getting a doctorate now, instead of later? my vote for you was to take a year off and think about it, but i do not know the the answer. be still..and search within. only you know what compels you...
    best wishes...

Thanks for all of the comments. You have all brought up some interesting thoughts and all of which, unfortunately, I have considered over the countless nights of insomnia. hehe. I am sure that as I gather information I will become more clear on what the next step is for me. I am enjoying research a great deal and believe in the tenants of research.

My prof's are amazing and my potential supervisors even more so. I can see myself as a prof but then again, I can see myself as a researcher... Then again, I can also see myself as a teacher helping young minds to think... and believe... and hope... and wonder while enjoying the summers to traverse the globe in constant search of what is out there...

So, this journey is great fun, and at times annoyingly painful by my indecisive personality, but so it goes. Wishing you all well and sending you loads of love. xoxo

What's your goal? Do you want to do research and be a prof? Then absolutely! OK, I'm with the last two comments. . . . figure out what you want out of it and where you want to be and how much cashola you've got and then Go for it!

Hi Elsa--here's the deal: when I finished my masters, I couldn't imagine NOT going on for a doctorate. But you should know that a doctorate is far more intense than getting a masters. Another factor to consider is what Richela above said: what are you trying to achieve. Another factor is that your advisor for a Ph.D. program should be someone that you utterly respect, admire, what to be around them and learn all that you can AND supports & respects & admires you. (That is what I had). That being said, consider where such a person is. I could never imagine pursuing a doctorate if I was not totally obsessed & inspired by the subject matter and those around me. Hope this helps a bit.

What is it you are trying to achieve?... Can it be done Stateside?...Where do you want to be in 10 years?...Life opens doors/opportunities ...let there be no regrets..be content with whatever decision you make because it was the right for this moment in time.

Cost and job security seem like factors... then again, Dr. Elsa has a pretty amazing ring to it !
