MICHAEL JORDAN: The best there ever was, the best there ever will be.

Air MJ23 ...truly the best basketball player in the world and none has ever surpassed him...if only he has a scottie pipppen like side kick in that wizard team in the 02-03 season of the NBA his team could be in the playoffs and perhaps be in the finals..and no one does it better like Air MJ23...skill wise Kobe is near but not quite..Wade and Lbjames is still going there..but a bit headed in other direction coz 2 superstars in one team means no single dominance...DRose with a superstar sidekick will be great in the years to come. And KDurant is on the way to improvement...but..but...as for this moment..for this generation...NoNe, Nobody, a total No No compares and surpasses Air Michael Jordan 23...Thats that! !! nuff said...

so far its still MJ is the best ever.... i was born seeing him play... i'm not sure how the new ages looks at it.... but surely those people seen him play will say something like mine..

  • Lucas - 13 years ago

Michael "Air" Jordan, the best. Period.

  • Lucione - 13 years ago

during the time of MJ, every time he plays, its like all of the people around the world watch him because he is unique and a great player of all.

  • Gid - 13 years ago

MJ is still the best! i wish i can see jordan-like :)

  • GMB - 13 years ago

Mr. Simon Felce you put it out there plain and simple. No arguments whatsoever. Nuff said

@david: You are misinformed. The strongest eras in NBA basketball are the 60's and the 80's. The depth of talent in those eras cannot be matched. Jordan played on a stacked team during a week era and can thank his lucky stars for the expansion 90's. Every decent team had stars that would have been stars in any generation in the 60's 70's and 80's... The 90's was the most watered down generation since the NBA integrated.

Are you guys really serious? Is that a question to ask. I'll keep it simple. Who else than MJ

  • James Pot - 13 years ago

well, it's simple to say who will win. we are talking about performance here and winning is just a plus.because we see great performances all around yet they still en d up in the losing side of the game. and by far the best in performances not to mention he also actually wins is MJ. and that's the bottom line!

  • D-Warren - 13 years ago

dude seriously. MJ was the greatest as far as performances go and Lebron can hold nothing to him (though he is talented) but if you wanna ago rings...Russell rules the kingdom with more rings then all ten of his finger can wear. i mean for 13 straight years he led Boston to the Finals and won 11 times...though MJ has more points, assists, and steals, and has broken more records

  • ROY - 13 years ago

com'on any survey w/ MJ included you'll definitely know who will win! no contest!

  • david - 13 years ago

Bill russell played in an era where basketball players will either great or horrible.. Nobody will ever be close to MJ. His Competition level with players around the league playin with heart and not money cannot be compared anyway to what the past or even the present has to give.. MJ greatest basketball player to be born..

  • alex - 13 years ago

bill russell received the least votes. can this be because older people who have seen him play dont read this kind of stuff on the web? i mean, he's got 11 rings. you cant dodge that, in any way

  • dan - 13 years ago

for me big ticket kevin garnet is best in the playoffs because when garnet traded to celtics they get the reputation of the celtics and being a champion a good power forward and a good black man inside and outside.

  • Jaysin - 13 years ago

The reason Bill Russell is getting snubbed so badly is because most people who watch the game today have no idea of what took place throughout the NBA's history. It's a shame that someone who's accomplished so much throughout his career gets so little recognition now...

  • Shaun - 13 years ago

I've been a Jazz fan all my life, and although memories of the 1998 finals still sting, my vote goes to MJ. Sorry Karl, you get second.

  • Steve - 13 years ago

Bill Russell has 5 titles in his 30's. Sure he did have some help but for the love of god read the question guys; there is no answer but Russell to this question.

To the writer of this column: Nash flopped and got hurt by doing so. That was not why the Spurs won.

  • Simon Felce - 13 years ago

MJ is and will always be the best basketball player in any regular season, playoff or final... this poll is unnecessary...

  • andrew - 13 years ago

how the hell did bill russell one of the best of not the best players ever get the least amount of votes...

  • JNO - 13 years ago

    Is this poll even necessary?

MJ's performance alone in the last 2 minutes of his last championship game as a Bull, (i.e., yup the one where he stole the ball from Malone and shot the ball in front of Russell to seal Game 6 and win the 6th title), has already attained mythical reverence that it's hard to fathom if can ever be surpassed.

And lest anyone forget, that Game 6 performance is just one of the countless displays of CONSISTENT LEGENDARY PLAYOFF PERFORMANCES from MJ throughout his career.

So for any delusional writer or fan who writes next time that Kobe can eventually match or surpass MJ's brilliance, do humanity a favor and press the big red "RESET" button at the base of your skull. Nuff said. :)
